Its all a bit blasé to assume that things will just get better or we are building for the future. Spurs have been doing that for the last 25 years. At a time they should be adding quality and depth to a decent team they’re building a stadium instead? Using the Arsenal model and what that did to them will be sure to happen to Spurs too although the Emirates came in less than half of the 1 billion pound Spud thing.

How long is a reasonable time to wait for success? When the faithful have waited so long already.

Exactly, and it's not as if other clubs aren't going to stop spending
A bit arrogant of them to assume that they'll be top of the tree in the future

And that’s going to be the problem, as I believe you’ll discover.

It looks like your owner is no longer prepared to pump in the vast sums of his own money that he’s done over the years. Yet City, Utd, and even Pool are all spending more and more. Expect Utd to lash out another £150 mill + this summer.

Trying to keep up is going to be very difficult for any apart from the very wealthy or very astute.

It was always supposed to be a case of the club supporting itself eventually, but if we need to spend then we can. It's just that we've bought badly this year, no question. God help you all if we actually start bringing our youth players through, they're the best bar none.

You don't understand the economics of a football club. The stadium isn't a drain on resources it increases them. It's part of the plan to catch up financially with the rest of the top six. As NSIS says this is only relative success. But we simply can't afford a 'successful' season like Chelsea's which ends with us losing around £50m by not being in the CL and the inherent difficulty that would bring in hanging on to our best players.

To win a cup you usually have to beat three or more teams at the same standard so even the best would only expect to win one every three or four years. We are still the weakest member if the top six so we'd expect to do worse than that.

It could be a drain, it depends on how they choose to fund it and the timescale for repayment. The cost estimates have doubled since its inception.

Astute won’t come into play when a team is being subsided by an oil rich country.

Although they may pretend otherwise, every season without a trophy ramps up the pressure on the manager IMO. There are only so many seasons you can go trophy-less before your best players start having their heads turned by the success of the clubs around them. It's only natural. So the doomsday clock is ticking. We'll see where we stand by the end of next season.

And which success would that be?

City won the league. Chelsea the cup, although they missed out on the CL. Are they all going to one of those two then?

Players will go to where they feel they have the best chance of winning something.

Why do you Spuds think all your players are worth more than anyone else’s?
