Issue being we went from Fonte and Van Dijk with Maya first reserve, to Maya as leader with a few kids. If we're going with 3 CBs fine - they all performed pretty well towards the end of the season, but still need that numero uno CB IMO.

 

Also if we are planning on playing with 3 at the back for the season then 4 isn't enough, 1 injury/suspension and suddenly you are down to no senior CB on the bench. If we keep Alfie Jones they may view him as someone who can step in, but would like another senior CB

 

Agree, our CB issues need a major upgrade. Whoever our keeper is next season will struggle until that's sorted.

 

Of course, we can switch to a back 4 if there is an injury of red card, like we did this season.

For me the back 5 was because we lacked a dominant CB in the air. I'm still hoping we can resolve that and go back 4 next season, especially if we end up losing Cedric and Bertrand.

 

Thankfully there hasn't been any obvious enquiries for any of our players as yet which is unusual...............

Bednarek is pretty good in the air I believe. If he plays alongside Maya for a season he will become a very good CB.

 

I must say, I’m finding the whole reticence towards McCarthy being our clear number one keeper next year REALLY odd. I can only think people considering that weren’t at games or something?

He was excellent from the moment he came in, to the degree that it would have been no surprise for him to have been called up to the World Cup squad. 28 is no age for a keeper. Yes, get a new #2 in, but that’s otherwise not a position that I feel any concern about.

 

We only have one "star" this year and that's Tadic. If he goes I'd have to change my name to ShirleySaint and that sounds a bit naff

Scunny were in the League One playoffs, so maybe Fela can help them get promotion next year.

 

That would be pretty foolish and a good way to get relegated.
