To be honest I think Uefa looked at Celtics group stage results this season and decided they needed to make it harder for such diddy teams to qualify.

 

Which begs the obvious question, where does that leave you?

 

It would be good if the other Scottish clubs made a dent in the Europa Cup this year but I suspect there will be little Progres.

 

It's no coincidence that Scotlands coefficient plummeted in the years that Rangers weren't competing in Europe.

It's about time the rest started pulling their weight.

Yes. The disparity between Scottish teams and teams from bigger countries like England, Germany, Italy and Spain grows on a yearly basis meaning it's increasingly harder for Scottish teams to compete in the CL. Rangers have only competed in Europe for ONE YEAR and you got horsed by a team of part-time posties and farmers who'd never even scored a goal in Europe before.

Celtic have offset the other team's failures in Europe somewhat by investing in a good coach and buying better quality players meaning they've qualified for the CL group stages two years running and this season getting into the Europa Cup courtesy of finishing 3rd.

Celtic also qualified for the CL group stages in season 2012-13 when Rangers weren't in the league, finishing runners up to Barcelona. Rangers were languishing at the lower reaches of Scottish football at that point. I would suggest that Celtic's failure to qualify for CL football in other years had more to do with Ronny Deila's naivety than the absence of Rangers who, quite frankly, are ****ing ****e and add nothing to Scottish teams abilities to qualify for European competition.

All very good, but its all done **** all in maintaining Scotlands coefficient. Celtic could win the Europa League and it still wouldn't make a dent on the coefficient as the rest drag it down.

In season 11/12 (the last season Rangers played in Europe until this season) Scotland were ranked 18th in Europe by coefficient. In 17/18 Scotland are now ranked 26th in Europe. Is this a coincidence?
