Gents, I say that because we are an all male board with the unusually infrequent appearance of ladies. I want to ask a serious question without toys being thrown out without even giving the question a thought.

Felix started off great last season with stats for shot stopping, distribution and linking play way ahead of any keeper in the league. Indeed he seemed to epitomize what pep was looking for and why he got rid of Joe Hart. Yet he fell apart and lost all confidence as did the rest of the team but being a keeper it was curtains.

It seems he is wanted back in Germany, Holland and France and I guess we would sell him. Good riddance many will say, but how would he have fared behind the defence of the previous season. After all Greene was pretty rough to start with, whereas Felix was great to start. When our useless defensive frailities were revealed Felix shriveled as would most keepers I think

    Thoughts?

I was always a champion of Felix & still stand by my thoughts. He had a number of faults, the most pounced-upon being his inability to 'command his box'. What that actually meant to a lot of people was that he favoured punching rather than catching. Ironic to expect an immediate turnaround when he spent his life training to punch. I likened him to scum's de Gea. If you recall, he had exactly the same issues - plus he was really skinny & got easily bullied. Look at him now. Scum had patience. We had fans baying for blood.

Any decent analyst will tell you that Felix was let down by his defence for most of the goals we lost. Yes, he made some howlers - as did Green - but Green had a solid, consistent defence in front of him, plus 2 deep DMs, á la Monk. I won't go into the failings of our defence this season - it's another big subject - but I think it's fair to say that if Green had this year's defence in front of him, and without Monk's layered defensive set-up, he would have been gone by Xmas - and I don't mean dropped. Gone.

So. Yes, I agree with you, but the reality of the situation is that Felix is history. The fans will not let him return. He will thrive elsewhere, of that I'm sure. And Lonners will be following him out of the door, unless he's got magical properties as a coach or mentor. He's lost the fans too - and no wonder! He was even worse than Felix - bigstyle!

Wouldn't say good riddance but it's pretty clear it's not going to work. Thought it was a mistake when TC dropped him as he was brought in so we could play a particular style and although he always looked like he had mistakes in him we played much better as a team than when Lonergan was played. But his confidence is gone and so is the crowds confidence in him and it's too important a position to gamble with (which is why I'd like us to sign someone rather than rely on BPF continuing his end of season form)

WJ, appreciate you saw more of him but I don’t think “command his box” was just about his decision to punch. Invariably he was punching from his goal line in a crowded area, he did not come off his line to punch clear to relieve his defence of any pressure. That was his weakness for me, he either didn’t know or wasn’t brave enough to come off his line for the ball. He may well do well elsewhere but it will be abroad where it’s less physical

Leeds started the season well and played a lot of sides that turned out to be relegation fodder. Felix kept a run of clean sheets... but it’s not that tough if you have nothing to do. I don’t care if he punches or catches if he punches well. He flapped at crosses, he missed some altogether. He looked an accident waiting to happen to me... and then the accidents came thick and fast. His confidence went, the fans got on his back, which never helps, and the game was up. Might he work out elsewhere? Who knows, he’s a decent guy by all accounts so I hope it does, but there’s no window dressing that he wasn’t up to scratch during his time here.

Agreed. What I meant was that it was his most pounced-on fault. If ever he was criticised, it was always mentioned. The problems you mentioned were also encountered by de Gea, but I guess I didn't elaborate on that (post was already too long & boring! <wah>).

Congratulations (through gritted teeth) to David Hopkin (remember him?) for getting Livingston promoted to the SPL. Sadly it was via a play-off against my beloved Partick Thistle, so the barsteward got us relegated as a result. But fair play to him & wish him & his team all the best.

I think it’s easy to look back WJ and believe he was brought in for a certain style but, wind back and think QPR away, Bristol City at home and Boro away, they all knew, plonk it in the box via a throw in, free kick or just good old punt and we were desperately vulnerable to an easy goal. I can remember watching Jansson on several occasions holding his head in his hands after another stupid goal and thinking if Weidwald doesn’t go Pontus will.

Sorry mate, I’m with Chippy on this, a poor mans Silvestre and he was woeful.

Good luck to him for the rest of his career but please not with us.
