J.J Watt has offered to pay for the funerals of all the victims, he's one of the true heros in sport.

If you had a gun you could have just shot him.

    Never heard of him.

Had a look on wiki, and he gets really stuck in to help people in Houston doesn't he?

Not knocking the money he's raised, but maybe it's the 'celebrities' like him that need to exert pressure on politicians (which he's probably doing) , rather than paying to bury people (and again not meaning to demean his efforts).

Something has to change to stop the regular carnage, because school/college kids protesting is not going to change Donald Trumps position.

I fully expect him to get involved in politics when he retires, he could really make a difference.

I feel he is right to stay out of politics as a sportsman though, he's a football player first and foremost, he could very well end his career by getting political right now as others have shown.

It's refreshing to see a young guy throw himself into his adopted community and make a difference though, there are thousands of sportsman in his position that could make a difference but most choose not to.

He plays for the Houston Texans, he's one of the best defensive players in the NFL.

I hope his offer is truly altruistic but I do get a bit cynical sometimes.

If he intends to go into politics after sport then gestures like this will do him no harm. However I'd guess that most of the bereaved parents would rather pay for their child's funeral themselves where they can, I know I would.

I understand your cynicism, if it was anyone else I would probably have them same view.
However this guy has been doing it for years, not just big causes like this but the small things as well. It also speaks volumes that he hasn't publicised this himself, it came from one of the families instead.

Funerals are expensive, we would all like to be able to give our loved ones the send off they deserve, some people can't afford that, I mean how do you budget for your child's funeral? It's something you would never dream of doing.

I just really struggle to understand the frame of mind of these gun loving idiots. I've heard every single argument for them and just don't connect. It's like a completely different reality.
I know South africa pretty well, and I often like to compare the two countries, as they also have a lot of guns there but it's completely different. Over there you have a gun for possible intruders but also to kill a baboon perhaps or also because police would take 25 mins to get to you in some cases, or because there's actual real corruption in law enforcement. But the gun is a tool to achieve one mean. It's not a toy.

These gun loving idiots in America, are just paranoid morons, fearing their government will get them... try and actually visit a country where that could actually be the case.

It's too much of a long debate to even start but the fact of the matter, more guns will make it worse. End of story.

The flip side though, is that the US is such a unique example, that bringing up Australia for example as a successful example of gun prohibition just won't work. The USA is too far down the line to revert back.

So removing guns isn't a solution either.

It has to be a solution that relates to controlling and making it very hard.

I think owning a gun is fine, 2nd amendment and all that but why do you need 7,8,9,10? Why do you need thousands of bullets? Why do need special attachments? That's when you've gone way past your 2nd amendment and actually getting a kick out of shooting "stuff". If you need a weapon to protect your family from intruders fine, but there's no justifiable reason to own an arsenal.
That's the real issue, The fascination with guns as if they're an adult toy. They're a killing invention. Treat them that way.

And you watch videos on youtube of people showing off their latest toy etc as if it's normal. It's not ****ing normal. Can you imagine meeting someone who owned 50 different type of knives, and was an expert a wielding them? Surely you'd want to stay away from someone like that no? They would be flagged by society right?
Or if someone owned 10 flame throwers and explosives? the guy would be on the FBI's radar but guns? no that's fine, here kid, try one out.

It's ****ing ludicrous and they don't get it.

Not that I particularly want to derail this thread, but I feel I should point out the fact that he's not a football player.

Whilst you are obviously trying to derail this thread he is a football player, just as a rugby union, rugby league or austalian rules player is

We will never understand americas gun laws, it seems obvious to us on onlookers but it's far more complex than most people imagine.

it wouldn't have changed obama's position, nor bush's, nor clinton's, nor bush's, nor reagan's, nor all the other relevant ones back to van buren and beyond.

No president has the ability to do anything about it. Trump definitely doesn't, the only people who voted for him are the gun loving types. The only people it would appease are the people who think he's a **** and even if he did it they'd still think he's a **** then everyone would be against him.

Besides, I'm not convinced what actual power a head of state has in a modern country. I think too many fingers are in too many pies and the real power needs to be kept content, in a similar way the unions used to have a certain group wrapped around their little finger.

    Subway from JFK...crazy!

We had a HUGE black guy on a subway in NYC ranting about being oppressed and demanding people help him financially. He was clearly either mentally ill, or carrying out a regular successful scam

He didn’t particularly target us...he targeted every ****er.

I didn’t consider him having a gun to be honest...he didn’t even have shoes, just socks

I did consider exactly how I was going to take him out if he overstepped the mark, with his huge bloated feet (they were like a condom overly full of custard) and came to close to Mrs Tash or the kids. The hastily conceived plan involved targeting his big fat bloated feet initially...with my well shod size 11s in their extremely heavy boots. I wouldn’t have wanted to shoot him...we’d have never got out as he’d fill the carriage laid down!

    He left

Mrs Tash immediately said. ‘Begging scam...I reckon he had shoe soles inside his socks’
