    Quartet to leave Ashton Gate
    Friday, May 18th 2018

Gary O’Neil, Luke Steele, Scott Golbourne and Arnold Garita will depart Ashton Gate at the conclusion of their contracts this summer.

O’Neil signed from Norwich City in 2016 and managed 36 appearances in City colours, netting once.

Steele, who returned to English football from Panathinaikos on transfer deadline day just under 12 months ago, has featured ten times this term, with his appearances equally split between cup competitions and Sky Bet Championship action.

Having joined Reading in 2006 after progressing through the club’s Academy system, Golbourne returned for a second spell in BS3 in 2016. The left-back went on to represent the Robins 40 times before spending the 2017/18 campaign on loan at MK Dons.

Meanwhile, Garita’s only first-team action came in City’s EFL Cup victory over Wycombe Wanderers during the 2016/17 season.

Speaking to bcfc.co.uk, head coach Lee Johnson said: “I would like to thank all the departing players for their effort and application throughout their time at the club.

“I wish them all the very best and hopefully we will see them at Ashton Gate in the future, supporting the club they used to play for.”

On-loan trio Cauley Woodrow (Fulham), Ryan Kent (Liverpool) and Loïs Diony (Saint-Etienne) have returned to their parent clubs.

City have already offered new contracts to six players from their Under-23 group, while four Under-18s have been offered their first professional deals.

All other first-team players remain under contract for the 2018/19 season.

Pretty much as expected - Steele's leaving hopefully indicates the intention to go out for a top notch keeper. I more of a Fielding fan than detractor, but I would like an upgrade...

    Yes me too

In fact if we sign 4 quality players in those positions it would be very good
Of course that also means keeping what we have (Bobby, Joe etc) - which I must admit is unlikely. Hopefully we have a plan to replace Bobby if he goes

I probably was expecting more of a clean out but these were expected and I wish them luck for the future. In all truth how many others will be on their way for the right price and apart from the odd rumour who will fill their boots? A reliable goalkeeper is a must with Luke leaving and perhaps Gigi could meet our needs as long as there's an Italian restaurant close by Ashton Gate.

Knowing Bristol City I don't expect us to come up with tasty new players that will excite the taste buds because that is not our way. Whatever money we spend in topping up the squad, and whoever passes the test, the only statistic we need to use for evaluation purposes is their match performances for us, and it would be nice for a change to bring in new blood that won't get injured early in the new season.

Apart from the last few games when he was shocking I think he had a good season , at times he kept us In games in our good run , besides if he's not on the side who will our supporters pick on ? , little used to be the fall guy before frank , he seems to have played well for Bolton since his move.
If we can get someone better then fair enough , I heard Marshall was 2nd choice for Sunderland , he may be worth a try, I used to rate him very highly , did he have an injury ? or just suffered loss of form .

Don't think he was even second choice at times. More than a loss of form, and critically for a keeper, a huge loss of confidence.
There was talk on our board about hoping to get him back as cover for etheidge.
Personally I think he's damaged goods. Will have been on a big wedge having joined hull when they were in the big league.
