So, Southgate has just released details of his squad for Russia - Joe Hart & Jack Wilshere left out of England's World Cup squad. #commnsenseprevails https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44132401 Edit - Pep is voted LMA manager of the year - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44134078 #thoroughtlydeserved
Thank god for that, neither should even have a question mark next to them. Shouldn't even be a story.
Why is Hart's omission from the squad even in the news? It would have been much more unbelievable if he had been included!
Because he's the first England manager in a while not to just take personnalities/favourites for the sake of it even when they are so plainly out of form. .......Watch him pick Rooney now! bah!
I think not taking Wilshere is a mistake personally, one of the most talented midfielders we have with the ball at his feet, glass ankles or not, he can make a difference in a game
Hard to say without seeing the full squad. If Shelvey is included, I think he fills the same role in the squad, but without the injury concerns. Shelvey fully deserves a place in my opinion. But I agree, England aren't blessed with players like Wilshire, so you can certainly make a case for taking a risk on his fitness. You rarely need 23 players for the tournament, and if there's an injury crisis then you can call up other players.
And like that, the squad: Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley) Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Kyle Walker, John Stones (Manchester City), Harry Maguire (Leicester), Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Jones, Ashley Young (Manchester United). Midfielders: Eric Dier, Dele Alli (both Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea) Forwards: Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal) Harry Kane (Tottenham) Disappointed Danny Rose goes over Bertrand, he's done nothing this season. And as I said I think Shelvey deserves a place. Not sure why Delph is included, he's been a deputy LB at best this season. Butland Walker Stones Maguire Jones Young Dier Henderson Alli Lingard Kane ?
That is pretty much the squad I picked. Only differences to my 23 is: Lascelles in for Jones - Jones not looked good all season, Jamaal has been outstanding. Bertrand in for Rose - Rose hasn't played much at all this season, Bertrand is a solid performer Shelvey in for Welbeck - Shelvey adds something the squad is missing, and Welbeck is awful. Milner in for Delph - Tempted by Delph as he's done well, and cover many positions, but Milner covers more, and has been bloody good this season. Really happy Pope is in over Hart. Really happy to see Loftus Cheek, Trent-Arnold, and Maguire get the calls they deserve. Lindgard can change a game from the bench and seems to love the big games. Happy to see Young get the call. For the same reason as my Milner pick, He covers a lot of positions, and his experience and professionalism will be important in the young squad.
Moyes leaves West Ham. Harsh. I think he should have had 1 more season. Big Sam sacked from Everton. Was obviously coming. The hate for him has been ridiculous. He came in to take them away from relegation threat. Look where they finished. I read somewhere they will have to pay him silly money to sack him. I think I saw 6M!!
So, it's going to be 3rd V 4th in the League one play-off final as well then, with Shrewsbury taking on Rotherham. I really hope that Shrewsbury get a victory at Wembley and earn promotion. I DEFINITELY want Godfrey back, but not sure re Morris. Edit - I was going to post this on the 'Championship Final' thread, but thought it best not to upset Dave!!!!
How have Danny Rose, Phil Jones, Gary Cahill, Fabian Delph and Danny Welbeck made that squad?! Bertrand in for Rose (barely played) Tarkowski in for Jones (barely played and been poor) Shelvey in for Cahill (barely played, been poor and the squad is defense heavy) Wilshere in for Delph Anyone in for Welbeck - would have been worth a punt on Sessegnon/Bailey/Townsend/Antonio. He will be behind 3or4 players for his position anyway.
That’s what I thought, but apparently he qualifies for England as well because of his parents or grandparents? Only played one game for Jamaica u23s.
I saw somewhere this morning re AVFC fans complaining that all of a sudden VP was full for the game against Boro and the true fans were singing - where were you when we were 5h1t???? #dayoutatwembley
I'm pretty sure that's a long-running myth perpetuated by his family. Bailey doesn't meet any of the criteria to play for England. He has 2 grandparents who hold British passports, but they would have to have been born in the UK (neither were) for him to qualify through ancestry. His father seems to have this bizarre obsession with touting Bailey as being able to ditch Jamaica and play for England, Germany, Belgium or Malta (?). None are based in facts, unless he significantly delays his international career.
