I don’t think Poch is asking Levy to risk the clubs future but just extra to try and spend a bit more to attract better players
I am not suggesting Pochettino or anyone on here is so apologies if it came across as an allegation mate. It just pisses me off reading and listening to the media and fans of other clubs slagging off our refusal to pay £200,000 per week to our "star" players and £130,000 to squad players or condemning us for not spending as much as City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal or Liverpool. 1990-1991 was a horrible season and we genuinely had no idea if we would still have a club...our total debt was £20m back then. It came from building the West Stand and then spending what we could not afford on transfers. We were so badly run it caused Burkinshaw to walk away with the parting comment of "there used to be a football club over there." In my honest opinion what is going on at dome clubs is unsustainable. United's Sanchez had he contract details leaked ... £370,000 per week plus £70,000 bonus EVERY TIME he starts a match. Arsenal's Abamyang received s £2.5m CL bonus this summer even though they did not qualify. Ozil gets £320,000 per week FFS. A big club will crash and burn imho and I am just hoping we will never face that issue again.
Not true. The damage was done by non-football stuff. Scholar poured money into the Hummel sportswear firm (trying to be the new Adidas) , and also into commercial property. The first never happened, and the value of the latter dived as the recession started to unfold. That put Tottenham Hotspur *plc* in debt, and only THFC (ie the club) had the assets (ie players) to try and cover the collective losses. Which started with the sale of Waddle.
The West Stand costs soared and instead of dealing with the mounting costs Scholar and made the club a plc, came up with all sorts of marketing pins as though that was certain future cash and continued yo spend money on transfers which they did not actually have. Eventually it caught up with us.
The IPO brought in money that lessened the west stand debt burden, but Scholar then went and effed it up. I wish that London Programme documentary in the 1990s about it was online somewhere.
I've just had a thought. I reckon this whole announcement of Pochettino's could well have been planned with Levy to help soften the blow of losing key players and to avoid fans blaming Levy for not backing Pochettino. If this whole fire sale is actually Pochetino's "crazy idea" that he was hoping that Levy would support him with then it makes sense to show that he is indeed the leader behind such efforts. We know that Pochettino is not afraid to lose players who want to leave, no matter how 'big' they are. Especially defenders. He said that one way is to buy young players cheaply, the other to do what Man City and Man U do. The third way, that I imagine he sees could work within Levy's framework of lower wages, for now, is to buy the best young players, some perhaps for relatively high fees, but pay them more sensible wages that can grow as the income grows in the new stadium. Not unlike Sanchez.

The bloke's a highly loyal individual. He treated Walker's desire to leave as a betrayal. He left Southampton because they got rid of Cortese. In his mind, you are loyal or you are not. He wouldn't sell out a club to go one in the same city. It just doesn't fit with the bloke's persona. Eventually he will feel that he has done all he can at Spurs and move on. I hope it's a good few years yet. I would expect him to go to another country - maybe back to Spain?
