I think it's a good shout. They can't get much worse can they? I wish United had done similar and gone with Giggs with his mates backing him, rather than going with hopeless ****e followed by hopeless ****e followed by miserable hopeless ****e. While all this was going on Giggs/Scholes/Neville could be finding their way in the job. I don't buy all this bollocks about going down the lower leagues to prove yourself. What is going off managing Macclesfield (for instance) going to prove with regards to managing Manchester United or Arsenal? Nothing. Especially as you've spent most of your career at said club anyway learning from the experienced man in charge. We'll never know if Giggs would have been a success and we won't know if Areta will be unless he's given the chance.
I agree and I'm sick of seeing the same old man installed as manager based on their reputation, there's a new breed of manager that needs to be given the chance to make a mark. It may not go well to start with but give someone time to build a team with their own brand of football.
Arteta is a smart thinker. He has had assistant manager experience under Pep. But his lack of first team managerial exposure is a significant worry.
You seen the bloke on our board who bangs on about Roy Keane being United manager? I actually agree with him now!
It just seems too late for us now. We've had Moyes destroying the fabric and setup of the coaching before handing over to van Gaal to take us back to the dark ages and give Guardiola a two decade start on Mourinho while the likes of Giggs, Keane, Neville and Scholes are wasting their time as pundits. And all the while you get calls for Ancelotti to be given the job. Ancelotti! He's out of work for a reason for **** sake.
If you could go back to Moyes appointment and have Keane instead, most would have given him that chance with hindsight.
Big risk going with Arteta. Played with a lot of that side during his time there, he may be too sentimental in getting rid of some of the dross... Like the back line, keeper or centre mids for example.
he was the beginning though. Signed loads of average players on big wages and transfer fees. He had them playing okay but his transfers if i remember rightly were shocking
