We wouldn't wait any longer than Moyes or Van Gaal but we'd hope that a little more care went into his appointment, given he knows how the club works and LVG/Moyes did not. If he is never ready then he should never get the job. I don't believe a manager has to be glittered with trophies to 'get' a club and bring future success, it just helps justify their huge salary.

Of all our past players such as Giggs and Scholes and the others who have gone on to manage such as Keane, Hughes, Ince, Robson etc apparently Carrick is in a league of his own for mentoring on and off the pitch, that's what makes me believe he might be different.

I'd never want Giggs or Scholes, they are both too stubborn and Keane can't handle the modern era.

Finishing 4 pts behind 2nd is hardly a yawning chasm, is it.

Maybe he would be the man.

    Big risk imo though.

City gave Pep - wins trophies everywhere and United have Carrick with zero experience.

    Asking a lot of him.

Rose wouldn't even make your XI, that's how **** he's been this season.

We've played 80% of the season without Toby. Would be a big loss won't deny that, but we've proven we can get by. Plus, Dave Sanchez has had a great debut season and should in theory only get better.

I'm not suggesting this is imminent mate, Pep will be long gone. He's not untouchable either, otherwise we should all just pack up and go home.

There's nobody who I'd want out there right now, so no point sacking Mourinho even though he's a boring bastard, he will bring trophies.

How long do you think the board will give Jose
to win either the PL or CL ??

And do you think that will be influenced by whether
Pep wins either next season ??

    True.

He is a safe pair of hands who will bring in trophies and offer a chance to compete.

So what does Carrick do in the next couple of years then?

    United reserves?

Sort of like what Gerrard has done.

As long as he doesn't go backwards he won't get fired.

He'll be JM's assistant. Mourinho is keeping the pressure off him by just calling him a coach, but Faria is leaving, MC is going to be assistant in all but name.

CL qualification (by whatever route) is the
    minimum requirement though (hence the
demise of Moyes and LVG) ??

Well when the money drops the Glazers get angry. I think we earn an additional £30-40m per season from Adidas if we are in the CL so yeah it'll be a minimum requirement.

If Mourinho misses CL he'll get shot.

I assume the payment is in units of their product,
to try and energise the performance of both your
    manager and players.
