Nah mate...very disappointed.........I also thought Back early Nov/Dec Mopo should have gone...........But never mind another game another result good or bad will be shouting for them come what May.............
Yeah, I always give my all at SMS, but that was another thing that was making matchday a boring experience, the lack of atmosphere.
It all turned out okay in the end though, eh? Still buzzing from Tuesday night actually, and today kept that feeling alive. No relegation battle = no massive emotional release when Gabbi scored.
Best part about this season I've learned is: I can take my time emptying the dishwasher while the kettle boils I can wear any watch strap on my apple watch I can put any case on my iPhone I can wear any clothes to the match ...as nothing makes a blind bit of difference to the result
I, in the other hand, have binned two pairs of socks and am still unsure about this season's away shirt. Which is a shame because it's the first shirt I've bought for donkeys. Wore it today and it would have been exonerated had the ref blown up 30 seconds earlier.
Oh come on. Too much information. I've told you once, what you and your wife do in the privacy of your own home needs to stay at home. My "lucky" old FlyBe black shirt finally went. Donned it for final game of each promotion season; wore it when Dejan Lovren scored the winner at Anfield and when Shane sent us to Wembley, but decided it had lost it's charm at Newcastle this year.
Like you, mate, I was presented with a straight choice. Should I be Pompey or should I be Saints? As a kid in the late 40's/early 50's I liked the stripes and the fact that visiting Saints meant seeing goals. Yes, I've always been passionate about them to the point of obsession. My long-suffering wife likes to tell the tale that our first date was to The Dell (what more could a girl want? It was a Division 2 big promotion clash with Coventry, for goodness sake) and having lost one long term girl-friend to my Saints love, I realised I'd met the woman of my dreams when she actually encouraged me to go to matches and would often come with me. This season she's been telling the family that she was worried as I seemed to no longer care about Saints' fate, and it was true. The fact that I committed to arrangements that meant Newcastle away was my last match this season summed it up. That would never have happened even last season. Last Tuesday I was in France eating out with non-football supporting friends. I excused myself just after the final whistle and my wife watched as I punched the air in the car park drawing odd glances from departing locals. At the end of the evening she told me she was delighted that I cared again. Being a Saints fan is what I am, not what I do. Even in the darkest days I always cared; I sang my little heart out at Nottingham Forest as we slipped into the unknown, for example. This season, I stopped caring. What the late performances under Mark Hughes have done is to make me care again, and I shall be forever grateful to him and the likes of Duscan Tadic for those positive interviews whatever the future holds for them.
On a personal note despite us being a bit **** I've quite enjoyed this season. Been to quite a few good games and ticked off 6 new grounds too.
Worth a mention that even if we had gone down, Barnsley wouldn’t have been a ground we would be visiting!
The cup run was good. Wouldn't mind some more of that next season, only without the threat of the trapdoor looming beneath us in the league.
Yeah two of those grounds were Fulham and Wigan actually. Shame I didn't get to the Baggies too. Hoping Villa come up through the play offs. It's about time we got a non league side in the FA Cup too.
The momentum is all with Villa now. But for selfish reasons, I'd like Fulham to come up; an easy awayday for me. Plus, Villa Park is impressive, but the visitor's end is a bit rubbish.
My abiding memory of Villa Park is after hitchhiking there with a couple of mates in '78 (the season after promotion) we had no idea if we were going to be able to sneak onto a Saints supporter's coach to get back home and we were held in at the final whistle as usual in those days. We watched the whole area behind the ground fill up with thousands of menacing looking Brummies chanting "you reds are dead" and they continued for an age after. Me and my mates were bricking it at the idea of trying to get out of Birmingham alive without transport!...The crowd subsided eventually and we did manage to get some seats on a coach thankfully!...
