Make masses carry their mobes, suggests wig in not-at-all-creepy speech

Top Brit judge thinks we'll warm to our Panopticon overlords

By Andrew Orlowski 11 May 2018 at 11:44

A senior British judge has highlighted the benefits of legislation that obliges people to carry their mobile phone at all times.
Sir Geoffrey Vos QC, Chancellor of the High Court and former head of the Bar Council, raised the prospect of compulsory mobe-carrying in a speech to the Law Society (PDF).
Vos drew attention to the advantages that a permanent record of an individual's movement could have on cutting crime.
He did not personally advocate the compulsory carrying of location-aware technology, but speculated that public resistance to it may diminish in the future.

The idea would be to make it a criminal offence not to turn it on.

I expect decades back no one ever imagined we would become the most CCTV'd country, but people accepted it.

I have worked on LBS for mobile phones, and unless
they get GPS accuracy on the prevailing radio tech,
there will be nothing doing (GPS receivers are currently
power-hungry beasts - far more than your mobile phone
in "idle/connected" mode with no active services etc) .

Indeed, but now you must carry a mobile with you that costs money to buy, then every gang member will want to rob you of your phone as they will know you are carrying one. Thats 10,000 more stabbings in London a year.

Do you know people without mobiles, unless older generation, but i would suggest most younger adults carry one. We are moving towards a cashless society, and mobiles are already being used to replace cards, even more so with the introduction of opening banking this year.

Any Christian nutters among you, consider the
suggestion that this in reality is the "mark of the
    Beast" prophesied in Revelation ...

****ing **** idea, probably promoted by fat, lazy, half arsed coppers.

Nick someone’s phone, carry out your crime, put it back in their property, anonymously tip off the feds.....

    Job sorted.
