Ellers posted that he became Cardiff manager shortly after leaving us, he didn't, Ellers overlooked the Rotherham job completely..... it was almost a year after leaving us that he joined Cardiff.........that's the point I'm clarifying......

Just when we think we're getting back on the right track.........

For the life of me I can not believe that having got the finances sort of straight the club is going to blow a whole heap of money on serial failures as a new manager, just very depressing and shows that TF & co are really no different from those owners at Brum, Sunderland, Hull, Swansea, Saints and are star struck by perceived big names.........

I suppose it may be that by making it a two horse race, QPR are trying to get McClaren's agent to moderate financial demands

I for one don't think this dof role suits us. I actually don't think it' necessary at any club and to an extent undermines any manager/potential manager. Was Holloway answerable to Ferdinand? Will the next appointment be? If yes then imo it's wrong. The manager should be answerable to the owners, shareholders and fans. Now I honestly don't think this made any difference to Holloways tactics, selections and results but it certainly can be more of a hindrance to a manager in terms of their relationship with owners
    Ah ok gotcha

Given the club's financial constraints, I think the DoF role became vital, and that Ferdinand has done a very good job in it. I believe he has been instrumental in reducing the playing staff cost budget. I don't imagine he would have interfered in selections or tactics.

Football clubs long survived before this introduction of a DOF. I'm not saying he has done a good or bad job, I don't exactly know what he does. With hero/cult status, it could make it difficult to work under him.

We wouldn't have survived much longer if Redknapp's mad dealings had been allowed to continue. Ferdinand's first job was to kneecap 'Arry and as far as I am concerned he is even more of a hero for that than for his goal-scoring exploits in the hoops .

The one positive I take it from this is that it shows the club still retains ambition to be more than just a mid-table Championship side which Holloway could guarantee us. Style of play may also be a factor.

And for this, I for one am happy. Without ambition then honestly what players would want to join our club. Appointing Holloway despite the chain of command saying we want to push for the play offs, hence JFH sacking, showed little ambition. The right man can do this job with success on a limited budget. Look at Warnock with Cardiff

Not disputing what you say Bob but £6m for Madine from Bolton or £3m for Tomlin doesn't suggest that Warnock was operating in a financial strait jacket........plus the likes of Bryson on loan and Hoilett on a free transfer didn't go to Cardiff for the good of their health, they would be on wages that exceed what the R's could pay.......

Bloody hell 'detective Exactly'! Is 11 months not shortly? You are just being awkward Tramore. My point was I don't believe the story of the reason why he didn't stay at QPR.
I'm sorry Hollow has gone but he wasn't good enough to take us forward.

There is only one Colin Warnock! 8 promotions he's won now! Plus many relegation savings. What are the chances of him getting fired by Cardiff in October, replacing McClaren November, and taking us up via Wembley again.

But I'm sure you are right, there are little known Managers out there who could get us promoted Shame it's only the likes of Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Watford who seem to find them. What I dont follow is why anyone can be happy with Holloway getting the chop only to be replaced by the serial failures who are favourites to replace him.

Agree with this. Seems we have a choice, go with an older, experienced manager who hasn't been successful enough to stick with one club (Wenger, Ferguson, Moyes at Everton) or risk it with a younger manager but potentially un-earth a gem as Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Watford have done. I'd far rather take the risk, we've tried the older, experienced managers and they have been very disappointing.

Certainly not a straight jacket financial constraint. Don't even think they were in the top 6 for spending though. Shrewd purchases and ambitious owners.
