I'm not sure if my personal observations are anything to go on, and this is just one country... But I see more Liverpool shirts, references, scarves, etc over here than Chelsea ones. In this corner of the world Liverpool seems to have more brand awareness than Chelsea.

When Roman was throwing money around and winning everything Chelsea was big here... As soon as he stopped the shirts changed to City or United.

Outside the UK I think fans change their favourite Premier League team often. I see more Liverpool shirts and Liverpool references and emblems than I do Chelsea here now... By a large number. When Liverpool win the league next season I expect to see a lot of Liverpool shirts here.

Unscientific ranking of shirts I see around here:

    1) Real Madrid
    2) Barcelona
    3) Celtic
    4) Man United
    5) Man City
    6) Liverpool
    7) Arsenal
    8) Chelsea
    9) Inter Milan
    10) Newcastle

Surprisingly see a lot of Celtic shirts. More than any Premier League shirt. The odd toon shirt too. Chelsea and City seem to be seasonal. Only see them when their team is winning. The others seem to hang around even when doing bad. Never once seen anyone in a Spurs shirt in the US. I know Spurs fans exist though because I had a coworker who was a big Spurs fan.

Not sure if # of shirts I see translates with # of fans or brand power... But that's what I see.

I can definitely see Liverpool "brand" being stronger than Chelsea.

Chelsea winning the league now and then doesn't increase their brand value since every other season they're so bad people would be ashamed to be associated with them

If you're going to count arsenal in our top six then surely you have to count A.Madrid in a Spanish top three?

Why have a short term manager making long term transfer negotiations?

    No they're just #doingaleicester

It's just statistically far more common for them when you only need 2 teams to have an off season than 6

    excellent post.

all I can say is any time you see a Celtic shirt there's some Irish likely to be involved some place.

I met a lot of Scots and Irish descent over your side of the pond in airports.

now you've said it I changed once in airport for a flight into a red shirt. I think it was if I but could be wrong but did get two guys saying nice shirt.

I get compliments on my LFC polo shirt all the time. You quickly find who the other fans are.

The waiter at a different table in the Mexican restaurant I went to last week was wearing a Liverpool away shirt. I said "great shirt" as he walked by and he just looked at me funny. I suspect he misheard me, hate to think what he thought I said.

One thing I find amusing is almost every white American thinks that he is Irish (at least around here). They ask me where I'm from, I'll say England and they'll excitedly say "Really, I'm Scotch-Irish". What they mean is, one ancestor 200 years ago might have been Irish and so they think think they are Irish... Or rather Scotch Irish... I think they mean Scots-Irish but they all say Scotch.

I do find that funny as they seem to just mush it all up.

    @DirtyFrank

I met one guy on an airplane once who told me he was Irish and was all proud of Ian paisley.

I politely nodded and said yes he was dead right enforcing the rule of law on terrorists.

The internal flights you get a lot of chatty people... more the pity <laugh>

Often you meet groups doing a tour which means Scotland and Ireland.

More often it's the younger who are headed for London and seeing stuff and the older that are on the crusty tours.
