Would we take a big injury that rules him out for the first few months of next season, if it puts off bids and we have him until at least January? Where you'd hope his price would go up again.
I think realistically Maddison's price peaked around February. If he's sold injured this summer it'll be at a reduced price, or he'll need a good couple of months of playing as well as he has before big money is proffered. For his price to move from ~£20m past £30m will require some proper heroics - and I worry he won't have the team around him to facilitate that.
Really gutted for Madders as everything was shaping up so well for him. Obviously it puts a big wrench in the club's plans as well, but like DH, I think the restructuring last season has more or less balanced the books, but we won't have much to spend as a result. Just beat me to it FML and I'm pretty certain that he is a real star of the future without the 'look how good I am' attitude of the likes of Redmond/Wilshire etc!!!!! I'm surprised he didn't pick up a serious injury earlier in the season, the number of times he was hacked down.
Exactly what I said to my mate. He is fouled and hacked so many times in every game, they fact he only got injured in the last game of the season is amazing luck.
