Is the current manager competent in your opinion?

We'll probably have to keep him now really but i would hope it's a short term deal. He's not as bad as he's made out to be really. Qpr his only real failure and they were a ****ing mess.

He's not the man who's going to get us challenging the top 7 again but he's a steady choice and has undoubtedly made a big impact here.

Our biggest problem is a chairman with too much power and the fact we have a new silent owner and no idea of his intentions.

    Big Summer.

I thought you had Chinese investment to the tune of £200million?

No he paid approximately that (bit less) for an 80% stake but seems he had to borrow to do so...

Loving the new username btw <laugh>

    Bloody hell.

Is Lawrie McMenemy still seen around the club, mate?

Definitely. There's a debate to be had whether he's 'decent' or 'good' for sure but he's certainly competent.

Don't think you realise how bad Pellegrino was <laugh>

Not 100% sure mate, he's still about but not involved in an official capacity I believe.

My father-in-law was in the Coldstream Guards with him in the fifties, long before he made it into football. He did a great job at Southampton of course but also a cracking one at Sunderland

I forgot he was from up that way, Gateshead isn't it?

And yeah didn't do great at Sunderland did he? <laugh>

I'm way too young for his era really.

Yes, Gateshead. When he took Sunderland down we all called him MackemEnemy <laugh>

He was brilliant at Southampton, obviously a club legend with the FA Cup win in 76 but he took them into the top league (and finished high up) and brought some good players to the club...KK, for example.

I think we'll be fine now, plausible yes but very unlikely. Good luck tonight in helping the Spuds **** up CL.

I don't know about that. He did well at Blackburn. Man C was fairly average having spent masses of money but not really achieving with it. QPR was an unmitigated disaster. Fulham was bizarre but he did ok. Stoke he did ok on reasonable budgets for the first three years. Then he set about dismantling it all with some terrible expensive purchases.

Overall he is not a walking disaster guaranteed to get you relegated but my concern would be is that Southampton will have money to spend this summer. I wouldn't want it entrusted to him. I just think Southampton would bounce right back with a more progressive modern manager.

Oh I do. I live in Bournemouth and one of my best mates is a big Saints fan. He was losing his mind.

Wagner claiming it's "unbelievable" they survived. Net spend was 8th highest in the division at around £45m. What next? Mourinho complaining that - at £127m - he can't spend enough? Oh, yeah....
