Always like to be rooting for one team when I’m watching (working away in Exmouth, again). Can’t work out who I dislike the most but think WH have marginally edged.
Just wanted to give a shout out to my local village team Chilcompton United, who have won the Somerset County Premier League this season. It’s a huge achievement for a village of just over 2,000 people to produce such a successful team, and everyone at the club deserves huge kudos. Eight of the players pictured here came up through the youth teams, of which there are at least 2 in each age group.
Sadly they can’t go up to the Western League First Division yet as the ground doesn’t meet Ground Grade G requirements. They’ve applied for planning permission for floodlights and stands etc., and hope to have them in place if they get promotion next season.
Sholing had a problem when they went up a league, they couldn't afford the travel all over the Southern area and had to stay in the local Wessex league a couple of years ago..
That's a shame, I didn't even realise there were requirements at that level. Some of the "grounds" are terrible
In summary, you have to have floodlights, covered seating for 50, covered standing for 50, and other things like a covered, protected walkway from the changing rooms to the pitch. You also have to charge entrance money and pay the players! All a big step up, and as you can imagine, a lot of people in the village aren’t happy about it.
I'm just trying to think, I'm sure they all have stands which would cover the seating and standing bit, but I can't think of many that have a covered walkway from the changing rooms I didn't realise all were paid as well, thought some weren't but I don't know about that
I strongly belief there should be a premier league fund that could help a successful club continue to grow in a situation like this. Ludicrous. “Well done boys in winning the league, but you can’t go up because you are just a small village club without a rich benefactor” Bollox
How many games should a ref be allowed to influence with bad decisions during a season before he is demoted? An interesting question, right...... So, what number do you have in your head, 1, 3, or five maybe. In a recent report Jon Moss was found to have made 13 game changing incorrect calls out of 22 games. I could think of five games straight away, after all two involved my team. But that number is truly staggering. That is not just incompetence, that is criminal negligence by the powers that be. Disgraceful. So, any fans of he, I suggest you get your byes in soon, because he's going for glue in pastures new. Either that or I'll do a GoFund page for a hit-man!
Went to see Vauxhall Motors FC play a few years back when they were in the Conference North. Their covered walkway was basically chicken wire over a wooden frame which went from the changing room to the pitch, yet nothing stopped people from going right up to it. I found it funny, couldn't help but think of The Blues Brothers
Blimey that's quite the act for an end of season dinner!! Was lucky enough to see Robert Plant play in Belgium a few years back. Just looked up and realised he's a Wolves fan. Makes more sense now!
