I agree about a forward being captain, the only one it ever really worked for was Roy of the Rovers I think we actually need two or even three Captains on the field with one of them carrying the armband In a 4 -3-3 or 3-4-3 formation we need some to take charge of the defence, someone to take control of the midfield to ensure that there are no gaps between midfield and attack and midfield and defence and someone to gee up the forwards Marriapa or Cathcart in defence, Cleverly in midfield and by default Deeney up front while he is fit and playing well, all four lead by example and give everything they have during the game In that sense it would not matter who wears the armband as long as they all know and understand their responsibilities I am not sure we can allocate blame for our season overall, Marco Bag of Silva showed his true character with the Everton farce, the Pozzos should possibly sacked him a lot earlier than the did and brought in Gracia earlier Injuries and a lack of discipline (partly due to Silva) destroyed Deeney's season Gray was not used to his strengths, Chalabah, Hughes and Cleverly lost most of the season through injuries and the defence was simply who could stand up and walk We have a very strong squad who injury free and with the right manager playing them to their strengths could, should give us the season we thought we were having this year And most of all, without the Pozzos we would be playing Luton etc in a 3 sided ground So lets all be thankful for what we have
Surely a team automatically has 2 captains, because a good goalkeeper is the captain of his penalty area. Does Karnezis actually take over this role or is he just a shot stopper ?
Gomez did, hence captain in Deeneys absence but not Karnezis he does not appear to organise his defenders
I wonder what sort of fee we could get for Deeney now - devalued quite a bit from his high of a couple of years ago I bet.
