Part of an article in the Mail

QPR owner Tony Fernandes is fond of McClaren after his spell working on Harry Redknapp’s coaching staff in 2013. McClaren then left to take charge at Derby, where he lost in the Championship play-off final to Redknapp’s QPR.

McClaren subsequently experienced a difficult time at Newcastle, only to return to Derby for a second stint in 2016. He was sacked from Pride Park in March 2017.

Here's the "whole" article from the Mail - no substance to it, so could be just click-bait, but The Times is in agreement and saying Lee Carsley is also lined up for assistants job...

Queens Park Rangers agree terms with Steve McClaren with Ian Holloway set to leave after disappointing season

    • Steve McClaren set to return to English football after leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv
    • QPR bosses want a fresh start after finishing 16th in the Championship this year
    • Ian Holloway has refuted claims that he is set to leave Loftus Road this summer
Steve McClaren has broadly agreed terms to become the new Queens Park Rangers manager.

QPR are looking to appoint McClaren to succeed Ian Holloway, who ended the season with three wins in nine to finish 16th.

Positive talks have been held and it is understood McClaren has indicated an eagerness to take the post.

I normally take these rumours with a large pinch however it seems to be taking apace. It is also reported in The Times. If I were a betting man (which I'm not) I would say Hollows days are numbered.

If he does come in someone should star a poll on how long he will last.

Lee Carsley? I know Lee, or at least I used to, his lad played in the same club team as my boy. I was a coach (FA qualified - I knew how to stack the cones and could administer basic first aid for the 15 minutes after I did that bit of the course) and he gave out the trophies at the end of the year. He’s a lovely bloke, I played golf with him a couple of times, in the days before I realised that I hated playing golf, think he was still playing for Everton at the time, though living in the Midlands. I’m sure I’ve still got mutual friends in touch with him, I could become an instant, validated ITK, with certificates and everything. Except of course I wouldn’t do anything so vulgar as exploit a friendship for tedious information about a football team.

Unless there was something in it for me.

David Mac seems to think the story has some legs in it, and he's pretty much got his finger on the pulse of whats happening in the club. Pretty ****ty way of getting rid of Ollie if that is the case - but if results improve, then none of us will remember that in a few years. Can't say I'm overwhelmed by McLaren as manager, would've much rather he came as assistant to Ollie, with Carsley as defensive coach - but don't think McLaren wants to be No 2 again.....

Aside from being a lovely bloke, Carsley is as hard as nails and was a midfield Clint Hill figure for every club he played for. Currently Assistant Coach for England U21, though how that works given that he played for Ireland (with Brummie accent) I’m not sure.

If Ollie stays expect more of the same in perpetuity.

People know my feelings on this. I think Hollow is a terrible manager. However, he did what I didn't expect this season. He kept us up and did a job. If he does go he will keep his reputation intact and I will have fond memories of his first spell at QPR. I wouldn't want him to stay and ruin that memory. Thank's Ian for filling the gap but I want to see a proper manager or coach that has the tactical skill to win an away game.

Just woke up and saw the headlines ......................hope no one minds if l pull the covers over, go back to sleep, thinking it was all a nightmare.

Footnote - Even if it is true, Warnock will come along with his next club and beat us in the playoff final.

The club should just take its medicine and re-hire NW, now!

I'll be stunned by TF's idiocy if this happens.

We trimmed the squad and wages, brought through some really promising youngsters and finished marginally better than last year. There was nearly always some fight and we got some good comeback points as a result of the team spirit. There was more entertainment than JFH's "set up to score zero unless Chery fires in a worldy" brand of football.

Did TF expect playoffs? If not (and that would have been slightly unrealisic) then what has gone so awry?

Is the mentality of liking what someone did 5 years ago, and thinking that sufficient motivation for more upheaval, really learning from the whims of old?

If Tone had any sense, he'd lock his doors, chuck his electricals out of a window and swallow his keys. He can then wait a few days for his arbitrary thoughts and his keys to pass.

Olly has always worn his heart on his sleeve and is QPR through and through.
Steeveee McLaren - I agree with a lot of posters on here who think he would be better as a number 2.

Olly has done well to help the club out of a sticky time and there is a part of me that thinks he could get the club challenging for a top 6 IF given suitable boardroom support. If McClaren came in as a number two you would have a good mix of two people with differing skills to bring to the table.

I only hope that whatever decision TF makes, he makes the right one. He has made too many bad ones - hughes and dodgy knees with cheques book open and Colin and Olly sorting out the mess left behind.

It's a harsh old world out there. Olly gets no serious money, only now loses the expensive players (not all dead wood but some serious dead wood eg Caulker) with the possibility of some half decent signings over the summer, finishes a tad higher than last season and higher than many of us thought we would finish and gets rewarded with the boot.

Really is a tough old game.

When Harry was manager with Steve as coach, the team played well. There was a definite dip in performance after he left. Perhaps he will do a better job, assuming that it's true of course.

Surely, if this is true, Holloway would have been consulted about it. If not, then it’s my opinion that TF and co have acted in a most shabby and unprofessional manner towards IH.

We will never know unless Olly writes about it in his book - when ever that comes out. They tend not to kiss and tell in the media and save it all for the book.

    He's got a year's salary to consider.
