Exactly. Not just players, but many of those would come and watch these finals. It's just gross stupidity. It just another thing to piss people off and turn them against the club, rather than the club doing all they reasonably can to encourage people to support or at least build some affinity to their local team. It's not like many round here need much of an excuse to go glory hunting elsewhere. Hell bent on destroying all the great work done since we moved to the KC. Utter idiot ****s.
Just checked, the East Riding Senior Cup was played at the Roy West Centre in the 2013/14 season and Haworth Park last season, outside of those two (and this season), it's been played at the KCOM.
Doesn't be quote what the chargecwas going to be, which presumably is what the "cost" would be. Pete S mentioned finals at Queensgate. When Ken Richardson owned Brid Town and the stadium, and he was a shady and feisty character, he was involved in a long running dispute with the council. His intransigence lead to the death of Brid's other club Trinity. He had a team of lawyers on permanent standby, making constant threats to sue them all sorts of things, and more or less told the council he could afford to spend more time and money on lawyers than they were willing to spend. The Chief Executive of the council during all this was also the Chairman of the East Yorkshire Junior League. Yet Richardson still gave free use of the stadium for the Junior Cup Finals, as he did for the others. Shady he may have been but he wasn't as petty as the Allams.
Not arguing with you, just stating the facts. The ERFA are sat on a fortune and have been for a number of years, and what do they spend it on ? There is a cost for hiring the stadium, and it is just a cost, not a profit making venture and the ERFA wouldn't pay it. I don't know how much City made profit either, but it seems plenty on here do. There is another factor which I think influences decisions like these ( and I'm not agreeing with them) and it is that the Allams do not own the KC but pick up all the costs for running it.
I don't know much of anything but I thought it said they were raising the money to pay the costs but the offer was withdrawn. Also the allams own/run the smc so of course they should pay for its upkeep from the rent they charge city, fc or anyone else. the council shouldn't have let someone so involved with either club manage it to start with.
Pete Smurthwaite's statement says the price was agreed, but after he raised the money, the offer of the use of the stadium was still withdrawn. City made a profit of £35m last season.
Maybe it's all part and parcel of being a multi millionaire and business leader? Showing a bit of flexibility, goodwill and generosity? Unless it's 100% about cash, other stuff like legacy and altruism don't matter to them.
When you see the total lack of goodwill to anybody.why would they give money to a hospital.surely not so one could call themselves doctor.that would be pathetic wouldn' it
That's not the case according to the interview in the original post Funding was there but the Club decided the ground was not available
They did say they were running the club for the benefit of the shareholders. So your comments are probably near the truth.
Can you post the link cos I was sure it hasn't a few times early 00's. this. I don't get why posters are outraged. It's not surprising. Having city (they aren't they?)in the final has made no difference to them. There's a cost and they aren't paying it. Simple as.
You might well be right, the list only starts in 2005. Do people think Smurthwaite’s lying, or are they just not reading the original post?
I don't think Pete is lying and I will ask him when I next see him. I think the cost of staging this final is too much for the ERFA and it they who have pulled the plug. There is even a cost to staging it at there own ground down Inglemire Lane otherwise they wouldn't be charging £9 to get in. It is not just a case of throwing the gates open and having a kick about on the pitch. Boxes have to be ticked and people have to be paid.
But he said that he’d organised the money to pay for it...and it was still pulled by the club because they decided that the ground wasn’t available So if that’s correct money wasn’t the issue
