That enforced sub was a defining moment imo. There's nothing like seeing a gambler's instinct pay off.

Not to mention having to lift the squad's morale off the floor twice, after squandering leads vs Chelsea, then Everton. Give him the job, and give him the keys to the City too.

I'm really torn on this. I just wrote a post explaining why I don't think he should stay but now the potential negatives of a new manager have appeared in my mind and I'm back to being unsure.

There's no question Hughes was a good short-term appointment given where we were and there's no question he's done a great job for us but all all these stories coming out of Stoke over the last few days, particularly the interviews given by Butland and Adam, really concern me.

A new manager could be problematic as well though. Perhaps wanting time to assess players and so on. Les's recent record appointing managers isn't too clever either so there's something to said for keeping the solid but unspectacular Hughes over rolling the dice on a relative unknown (based on what we've done before that's who the new manager would be).

To be fair guys, sparky has earned his stripes as far as I’m concerned. He had 8 matches to turn us around. You have to give him credit he did it. So yes he has in my opinion earned his next contract for 3 years. Wether he is the best long term manager depends on the support he gets from the board.

    Deserves a shot, yes.

Les and Ralph can still bugger off though.

2 year contract for me & a little stability. He seems popular with the players (bar Boufal) and a "safe pair of hands" maybe no bad thing for a couple of years.

It’s a very difficult decision, as I feel like anyone could have improved upon Pellegrinos shamolic reign. It’s difficult to assess if Hughes is the right fit, or if he’s just better than clueless.
Would seem ridiculously harsh not to keep hughes on though - great to see his passion at the end

    Keep him.

    Instilled belief, fight and passion.

Sod it, give him freedom of the city if we dont lose 10-0 on Saturday.

Definitely keep him for a couple of seasons but keep him away from transfer dealings

I think the previous few games have shown us how important it is to have a passionate manager who can motivate the team and promote a good spirit. It's on par with tactical nuance.

No way should we let this go. We already tried to self-destruct once. Hughes is a solid manager, and with the right tools could prove very good.

Can't believe this even needs debating.

Well, I didn’t ever consider myself fond of him or his style. I’m still apprehensive about what the longer term under Hughes will look like.

But, he has absolutely earned this and it hasn’t been easy.

So yes, he deserves to continue.

Keep him. At the end of the day, who would we get instead?

I’m not going to answer this while I’m still dancing on the ceiling.

Surely anyone who could raise the players’ spirits from the slough of despond they had been in for the whole season, to the point where they could actually believe they had a chance of staying up, and then get to the point where it’s virtually guaranteed, deserves another season?

As Laces says above though, the new owner needs to take drastic measures in the boardroom, and, I would add, hopefully find some transfer funds from somewhere.

Agreed. I've never been particularly fond of Hughes, but you can't sack him after this.

Easily deserves to continue with what he has done in just 8 games. I think Hughes might just be the steady hand that we need for another season or so.

Don’t know, but I wouldn’t be averse finding out.

I think we need a change at the top. If we do that, then whoever comes in might want to bring in their own guy in which case we should let them. If They decide to keep Hughes, I’m fine with it. But first things first, sack Reed an whoever else immediately. Get a new Football Director in ASAP. Hopefully we already have someone in mind. Has to be done in 2-3 weeks, tops. Then give them the rest of summer to sort out the manager and roster.

Tadic shouldn’t be calling the shots. He gets hot, he loves everyone and the manager most of all. He goes cold, sits a few games and then starts moaning. I’ll give him credit for mostly keeping his temperamental nature under control and just having a sly moan rather than goin nuclear and backing the manager when he’s happy. But no one should be taking his advice on this matter.
