I can see us winning tonight and still going down. Based on our luck which has been shocking, also listening to the vitriol aimed at Hughes on Saturday when we were winning Stoke fans will want Swansea to win, and I wonder how many of their players will too
I am sure we are going down, but it feels like a death by a thousand cuts. ps obviously I hope we don't. I was always said last season would be my last as a STH but I couldn't give it up, this season will be my last
I'm with you Ashby. 2-3 weeks ago we were 95% down. Then they give us hope. Then they dash it, then they give us hope again. The way this is going, we'll lose or draw today then beat Man City in the last minute of injury time to stay up. If, of course, Stoke don't roll over as expected to send us down. Or actually we will lose tonight and beat City 5-0 and then Swansea will get a last minute winner/equaliser. I won't say it again, but it kills you.
Is this a cup final or what? You have to be favourites for this one, with your good run of form in the last 3 games, I just hope we don't do 5 at the back, as it is painful to watch, we are always better with an offensive formation, I have a feeling Carlos with do a bit of both, starting with 5 at the back and switching to 4 as the game settles down, both teams will be nervous, think if you don't get an early goal, that it might very well end up a draw, which would suit us, but my fear is that we are not good enough to beat you this evening, and I think you will win this game, all the best whatever happens.................
Judging by the posts from both sets of supporters there really is no favourite in this. It really is a lottery. You have home advantage, we have a bit of momentum. It is football and anything can happen. I am so nervous about this. Make of break. We normally break.
I could certainly see a scenario where we win tonight, but ultimately fall back behind Huddersfield. But I would be amazed if we also fell behind Swansea. At an absolute minimum, it would require a 10 goal swing on the last day. Yes Man City are excellent, and yes Stoke fans would love to see Hughes go down, but such a swing would be quite extraordinary. Although that's not to say that if we're one goal up tonight, and Long misses an open goal with the very last kick of the game, I won't be cursing at missing out on the chance to increase that 10 goal swing to a 12 goal swing!
A draw isn't the end of the world for you with our respective last day fixtures. With that in mind do you think you'll play for the draw and try to keep it tight and hope for a breakaway goal? A draws no good for us, we have to win as hoping for a result against Man City is foolish. Until mismanagement in recent seasons and the big team monopoly buying our clubs best players, Swansea and Saints had been a breath of fresh air in the league playing attractive attacking football. It's a shame it has come down to this. All the best regardless of the result.
I think the City fans like Hughes. And one of his first signings was Kompany, so Vincent arguably owes him. I'm sure we can let them have the one, to get them to 100 points, and then the rest of the match is played out like the ending to the recent Reading-Cardiff match. (If you weren't watching, with Cardiff minutes away from promotion and Reading minutes away from survival, the Reading keeper had the ball at his feet, and the Cardiff striker was clearly gesturing to him to just stand there with it. It went on for at least a minute I would suggest, and would have continued for the final few minutes had it not been interrupted by a premature pitch invasion. Although even when play restarted, all that changed is that the two Reading CBs then started passing it between them, one of them trying a trick at one point to pass the time.)
While I might say we the most likely to actually win the game, the combined chance of a draw or loss is bigger. Still, If youre anything like us this season though, the fact a draw should be good enough just makes you more likely to lose I think we'll go ahead first half and you'll claw one back in the last 20 as we start to **** ourselves. But then a single beam of light will part the clouds and blind Fabianski and we'll score in the 97th minute through divine intervention. #IBelieve
I know if we win its unlikely, but it would be so bloody typical of the way this season has panned out. You could definitely say I am a glass half empty in my feelings towards Saints at the moment
It is a shame it’s us/Swans/Huddersfield. Three teams I like in the premiership. At least if one of us wins tonight it’s WBA as well. Them and Stoke I’m entirely ambivalent about. Still weirdly confident. Nervous, but confident. So much will depend on which Tadic turns up tonight. Suspect he’ll get kicked too.
For the sake of the team I will not be checking on the score anywhere tonight and will only look at 10.20pm to see what happened. Phone will be off, tv/radio news blackout commences at 7.45pm. The reason for this totally irrational behaviour is because every tine I tune in to Radio Solent or 5 live or not606, the other lot seem to score within 5 mins! This goes back many years, does Tranmere ring a bell? So I am very, very grateful for all those Saints fans at the game cheering us on and hope they get us over the line! Why wait until 10.20? To allow for extra time added on to extra time by a referee who can’t read his watch!!! A draw looks more likely to me now that Swansea have Welsh pride to fight for with Cardiff also getting promoted. Then maybe Jack Stephens climbs high in the 90+ min to score our winner!!
