    Pretty sure you’re all wrong and the 5th CL spot is for the Europa win. 4th place missing out is linked to a team outside the top 4 winning the CL

    Rule was changed in 2013 ... a country can have have a maximum of 5...that's why man Utd winning the EL last year did not kick out the 4th place team

    I know we can have 5 if a team wins the EL but does that stand if a team outside top 4 wins the CL?

    yep...the rule was changed a couple of months after Spurs missed out in 2012.
    The only way 4th lose out is if 2 teams outside the top 4 win the EL and the CL.
    TBH it wouldn't make sense that 4th lose out if a team outside the top 4 win the CL but not if one wins the EL.
    Not that UEFA usually give a toss about sense!

    Right, I thought the EL thing was to incentivise teams to take the EL more seriously, I didn’t realise it stretched to the CL. I think 4th should miss out if a team outside wins the CL, it would stop teams playing for the top 4 trophy
