Match Day Thread Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by PleaseNotPoll, May 3, 2018.

  1. Whatever.....
But if we follow your basic premise through then they might as well just sit round a table in July and agree where the club's finish......
    Now that would be fun.

Is it really too much to ask for fans to enjoy watching us play and debate how we can improve without castigating the manager and half the squad?
Let's discuss why Poch does what he does not why he is clueless?

We all have our way of supporting our club. I'm going to scream myself stupid on Wednesday and Sunday and see where that gets me. I have no doubt that we all want the best and will deal with success or failure in our own special way.

For those of you who can make it to the games....sing your hearts out for the shirt.

That’s the spirit! If you had told me at the start of the season we would be third if we won our last two games at home to mid table sides, I’d have been tempted to take that.

  7. That doesn't include any of the onfield players, just for clarification!!
They need to focus on core business <laugh>

I am probably the most nervous and pessimistic spur on the board...years of soul crushing disappointments have taken their toll!
I get your point totally but...
I think people on here express frustrations fraternally which has no impact on the team and is similar to mates discussing the team on the way home after a match.
What I NEVER do and NEVER get is being negative at a match.
The groaning at a misplaced pass, booing when losing, ironically cheering a decent pass from an off form player, leaving early when losing all do my head in.
At a match cheer or encourage until the final whistle...that's what I miss about the lane...it weren't always great but it was loads better than the turgid atmosphere at Wembley.

Btw...I do like the respectful debate on here...it puts some boards on 606 to shame.

I made the same points in a post not long since - I absolutely agree with you, RCL, and I’m totally chuffed to read this coming from your good self!

But he did actually change that on Saturday, PS, this is why I can’t hide at how fuming I am at that display.

With the exception of probably five or so games near the start of the campaign when Toby was fit, we’ve played a 4-2-3-1 formation that has largely been successful throughout the season.

However the formation and tactics on Saturday were completely different to what we’ve seen for the most part and I don’t understand why such a stupid (in my opinion) change was made.

As I’ve said, and will continue to say; I love Poch, he’s the best manager I’ve seen at Spurs in my 28 years on this planet but he has a tendency to make some bizarre decisions at crucial times that just leave me utterly dumbfounded. No team has a devine right to win a football match but seeing my team play such a limp style of football against the side bottom of the table and destined for relegation in a game that also had a lot on the line for us, I’m naturally going to be pissed off and unfortunately Poch is a huge reason for that after Saturday’s result.

    Amen brother!

I may criticise the team on this board when I feel necessary - just as I’ll praise them to the high heavens when deservedly so - but at the games I am nothing but supportive and I can’t understand fans that boo, moan and shout obscenities at our players during the 90 mins. I’m a firm believer that that sort of attitude can negatively impact our team’s performance.

At games, if you don’t come to support the team, you should **** off, simple as that. But on here, sometimes it feels necessary to release a bit of frustration that’s been built up through poor performances/ tactics, just as I’ve done recently with regards to what I feel have been poor judgements by the management. Come Wednesday, I’ll be one of the first people shouting “He’s magic, you knooooow” but in the meantime I’m gonna bitch about the bloke because I feel he ****ed up Saturday with his decisions <laugh>

  16. Well said, DH - that’s what being a ‘proper fan’ is all about!
When I think back to some of the appalling players and managers we have had over the years, those who I have railed against to Spurs mates and in my own head - but would defend to the last when on the pitch or if criticised by others........ unless they turned into a Rose or Modric-shaped Twaticus! <laugh>
I think I even (possibly) cheered GG - once........ <yikes>

Now, you bunch of useless, overpaid, undertalented kick-ballers - get back out on that pitch on Wednesday........ and make us PROUD!! <cheers>

I appreciate your opinion DH but as I agree with you that Poch is the best Spurs manager for years, I take the view that if I think his decisions are bizarre then that probably means I'm thinking about the issue in the wrong way rather than he is. I'm very happy to discuss why we set up like we did on Saturday and whether it had the desired effect but not from the starting viewpoint that it was clearly the wrong decision because we lost the match.

Well of course it was the wrong decision. You lost the match <doh>.

I suppose my team's just been unlucky as well rather than because Conte likes picking bakayoko every game

I've got no idea why Conte picks Bakayoko either but you're on a great run so perhaps he has got it right.
The result of a single match says next to nothing about tactics etc. Luck plays a part in all results. That doesn't mean we were unlucky by the way.

It didn't have the desired effect and I think many fans foresaw that before kick off once the team was announced. It was even more apparent at half time but yet again Poch was too stubborn to change it earlier on, in fact he only changed the formation on 85 mins and that was because Jan got injured. It was just farcical, mate, absolutely farcical.

There's no logic in deploying a defensive formation against a side who've barely won this season and often play for draws against us. Foster was rarely challenged and it was the first time we failed to score in 24 league games, I don't think it's a coincidence that happened in a game where we decided to play with an extra defender on the pitch.
