Could we get anyone better than Stockdale for the managers job, in terms of knowing our squad ? No, but would he get us back up at the first attempt.
There are better managers in the frame and certainly there are loads more that would be worse than Robbie https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2018/may/wolves/stockdale-post-wolves
I like him but dunno what he'd be like as manager although going off today he'd be just what we need. He doesn't seem to have much ambition for the top job at least I don't recall him talking about it.
He gave us today what we have been asking for since Xmas. It might be just one of those end of season results, but the attitude, commitment and ability shown is in stark contrast to what we have endured recently. I for one would take a chance on him, but if the new owners have other ideas I hope that Stockdale is retained in some capacity for the sake of continuity.
https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...-teamers-have-already-asked-to-leave-the-club My understanding is that this is regular 1st team only, not the youth team. we can confirm that a trio of players that definitely have NOT asked to leave the club (as yet at least) have played regularly towards the end of the season - including one touted as a future club captain, one that has been in a rich vein of goal-scoring form and a young defender who has proven himself to be more than capable having been given a run of games in the first team. Honeyman, McGeady and love? Would hope that a few more would want to stay. Asoro, Gooch, Maja... Presume Watmore isn't included in this Who else would be significantly missed? McNair? In any case, wanting to go and actually going aren't the same thing. Clubs need to actually want them.
Hope it is McNair, he was earmarked by CC to be the bedrock of the re-build. I have a good feeling that a corner has at last been turned, its a funny old world supporting Sunderland, but would I swap it, definitely not, onwards and upwards.
Think Asoro will be away. His body language after the final whistle on Sunday - he was in the South half by himself for a long time looking like he was having a last look around to me.
Hope your wrong, we could loose out twice if these young players move on now, football wise and financially. Par for the course you might say.
I'd back Stockdale to the hilt, brought most of these kids though, had them playing great football. When in a position of authority he's excelled, can't believe we've misused his coaching talent in 1st team coach role where his duties are implementing other peoples training plans. Poor move. If he's not going to be manager or assistant, we need to get him back as U23 boss. Or let the bloke move on to somewhere where he can realise his talent.
Nicky sharkey 16 Cecil Irwin 16 Derik Forster 15 We’re them the three youngest sunderland debutants Can’t find anyone else ?.......???
Elliot, Arnott and Rowell never forget their introduction by Jimmy Adamson, or the transformation they triggered, wishful thinking maybe but could our current crop have made a similar difference, if they had been introduced earlier, we will never know, but its a nice thought. They certainly lifted the spirits on Sunday it was great to hear the backing from the fans and gave us all a much needed lift.
Me as well. We’ll get compensation as they’re under 24 ( think that’s the limit but can’t be bothered to look up rules ) but think someone mentioned on another thread that it seems to go down significantly in the lower leagues. Will have to see what comes in the next couple of months
We may well lose many of our promising kids during the next couple of months and that would be bloody annoying. But it won't be the end of the world. For me, we're starting from scratch. That means losing the troublemakers, losing the deadwood and the undesirables, and unfortunately losing a decent bunch of young kids as well. The revolution starts here and now. Well, when the EFL signs off on it
I'm not convinced we're going to lose many of our young players. Some are better than others but I don't see teams beating down the door to sign any of them really. They've all still very much got a point to prove.
Neither am I Nacho. I think we'll keep a good few of them. My point was I won't lose any sleep if we do lose some of them. A new broom sweeps clean, and all that jazz.
One things for sure we're going to have a very different squad from the one we ended the season with, lots of new players needed. I'd like us to keep all of our promising young players and build around them, hopefully the days of flogging literally anyone for any bid are over now Short is buggering off.
Me too mate. Me too. I wonder about Watmore. Will he be fit for the new season, and if so, will he stay or will he be sold on the basis of his pre-injury reputation as an England U21 prospect?
