No offense intended Askewshair, but your theme seems a little bit barren when it comes to responses ! Also, as a couple of sods mentioned, you posted it on Thursday. I'm just as bad as it's after mid-night Friday in the UK, so with a 5 hour time lag I can almost be forgiven. It's late, we're off to Lulu's ( I have a story about Lulu) to guzzle Blue Nun, and owt else we can clutch. I wanna hear about the tastes of the wide spectrum of ages/musical influences of the music afficionados who regularly contribute on this forum. It's being triggered by tonight's BBC (repeated many times) documentary on tonight (Beeb 4) ("Kings of Rock & Roll"). Your favourite 5 tracks/singles/albums from both sides of the Atlantic. (if album - post at least 1 track) Bloody difficult, but here we go with my 5 picks ( I was born in 'Ull and emigrated in '71 to t'other side of the pond). T'other side - started it all off - Dad was in the merch, amateur musician & picked up a lot of music...sheet & vinyl (or was it Bakelite in those days ?). ! My favourite ever artist - all genres... running a close 4th... (I can'nae count !) Over 'ere ( when I lived there obviously): again - no counting... This is a bonus...much later in my life, but Knopfler was/is brilliant:
Without a doubt, Peter Green is my favourite Brit musician- and Fleetwood Mac my favourite UK band ever (with or without PG). Thank you John Mayall.
Great selections TC...virtually all favorites of mine from both sides of the pond in an era when I was still following the pop music scene (pr-1980). Ah the good old days...eh???
No doubt those born after the end of WW2 were privileged as far as music was concerned - on so many fronts - for 2.5 decades. Mind you, i would say that being an old fart. What I love is that even kids today ( say 20 +) have an affinity for so much of the music we enjoyed. Not sure I was such a great fan of my grandad's taste in music Mind you, there was a major influence from the Americas from that era on the stuff I loved ( Mississippi blues etc)
5 fave UK and US tracks? Bloody hell. Too hard a task. As a ****ty compromise, here's 5 tracks by Australian artists instead
