No, plummeting is pretty quick.

 

I once walked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then back up via one of the mule paths ...tour guides call falling off this very narrow and steep path as taking the 13 second tour. That's how long it takes to fall 1 mile apparently

 

I was told that decades ago there was one mule that was famous for stopping and looking over the edge at the Grand Canyon....apparently put the wind up tourists. I suspect the guides put the most annoying person on him.

 

I chose to trust my own feet rather than sit on a mule and trust their hooves. I saw nothing but terrified faces from people who chose the mule option, even those on mules that didn't have a sense of humour.
