Seem so, certainly there seemed to be a good crowd at the start and along the way.

Twas good to see roads I ride on the TV ~ thought East Yorks countryside looked very nice & saw myself on TV 3 times as it passed where I was perched for the race

amusingly as the race went through plenty of roads I use, the faster people I know on STRAVA (cycle~geek~app) who hold best times (KoM's) on sections of routes & 'top tens' have now been relegated by 40-60 places. To be fair they were travelling on the road from Beverly at 62.kmh !

For those that are interested like me in cycling, this years Tour de Yorkshire, the racing on all 4 days has been tremendous. The weather, the scenery, the crowds as well as the actual racing have been outstanding, and many of the riders saying it is right up there and should be built into a world tour race. The organisers, who also do the Tour De France said it is close behind the Tour de France as a venue to hold a race. Praise indeed.

Vuelta a Espana: Yorkshire cycling chiefs in talks to host start of event

A record 2.6m spectators watched the Tour de Yorkshire in 2018
Yorkshire looks set to host the start of the Vuelta a Espana after the county's cycling chief confirmed "they want to do it, we want to do it".

The three-week Grand Tour race was won by Britain's Chris Froome in 2017.

Yorkshire hosted the Tour de France's Grand Depart in 2014 and is set to stage the 2019 World Championships.

The county's burgeoning reputation for staging world class races was enhanced this weekend when a record 2.6m fanswatched the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire.

The race, extended this year by one day to four - with the women's race doubled to two days - was borne out of Yorkshire hosting the 2014 Tour.
Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Sir Gary Verity, who brought the Tour to the county said talks had been going on "for many months" although no year has been revealed.

"Javier [Guillen, the Vuelta director] was here for the presentation on Wednesday night and left on Friday," Verity added.

"We can offer stunning backdrops and fantastic crowds, he's been able to see that for himself in the flesh."

The Vuelta is the third of the year's Grand Tours and the three-week race usually starts in August. The Giro d'Italia is raced in May, while the Tour de France takes place in July.

The race has only started outside Spain on three occasions - last year's edition began in Nimes, France, while the race has also started in Lisbon, Portugal in 1997 and Assen, Netherlands in 2009.

When Yorkshire hosted the Tour de France, race director Christian Prudhomme called it the "grandest of Grand Departs".

The Tour has already been slated to return to the county again. The race is organised by Amaury Sport Organisation, which also looks after the Tour de Yorkshire and Vuelta a Espana among others.

Yorkshire will also stage the Road World Championships, in Septemeber 2019, making it the first British host venue of the event for 37 years.

Let's face it, if Israel can host the first few stages of the Giro, then why not?! Good stuff and massive for God's Own Country. I wish our fair city would get involved though - what is the real story behind that?

The Council likely couldn't afford to fix the disgusting state of roads in the City. ERYCC managed somehow to find a route which just about passed inspection for TDY as their roads are as bad and in some outlying areas worse... Swanlands roads are pristine however... go figure..

ERYCC spent a lot of money patching up roads around Hornsea ~ closed the back road from Hatfield to Sigglesthorne for a week to patch it!

Shame that the TDY doesn't quite make it into Sheffield like the TDF did with it having just skirted the edges, but to be honest the best riding round here is just over the border in Derbyshire anyhow so a fair one. Certainly something to be proud of, getting 2.6m people out on the streets makes a huge huge impact on organisers, cyclists and sponsors, fingers crossed it keeps getting bigger and better each year and we see grand tour stages popping up here and there in the future
