Extrapolating the "with Tettey" stats across a whole season and we'd have been in the play-offs, whilst the "without Tettey" form pitches us into the relegation battle. Obviously Tettey can't play 46 games, but it hints at the necessity of a proper DM.
I thought the stats would be good, but that's amazing. He was helped by Trybull coming into the team at the same time but even so it's impressive. I tend to agree that we don't need both Reed and Godfrey, given his versatility, but that would depend on whether Godfrey's RB play is of the same quality.
Stats lie there are so many variables that without much more detailed analysis these sort of stats are worthless. For example Tettey didn't play at the start of the season when Martin was at the heart of the defense and Hanley wasn't even a Norwich player and I'm not a 100% sure, but didn't Tettey's return to the team coincide with Hanley becoming a starting CB. Tettey became more involved in the second half of the season when DF's understanding of the league had increased. I could go on but I won't. I can see a decent arguement for keeping Tettey for another year, 2 doesn't make sense. We'd have been better off paying him more for 1 seasons than paying him for 2 seasons when we only really need him for 1.
Looking at Toni Leistner on TransferMarkt, it seems he's able to play on either side as a CB, but can also play at RB or DM. The RB option would be particularly useful, but that versatility suggests that he's a mobile player wherever he plays. Could be a very useful addition on a free transfer. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/toni-leistner/profil/spieler/86916
He'd have to be fit for a season, which he never is, and as he gets older it will get worse. Apart from that, yes I'm fine with Tetty staying, I just don't see why him and why not others in his position. Wes gets released, when he offers so much more, yet injury ridden Tetty gets 2 more years, despite us being told we are clearing out high earners. It's ok, but it's against what they keep banging on about. Which is frustrating. "we have to let our club legends and favourite players go because we can't afford it", We are so bad financially, that's why these old club legends need to leave Oh Tetty? The player who is injured more that he us fit? Lets pay him again to sit on the treatment bench, that's fine. If they keep banging on about being ruthless and cutting costs, and we can't afford a cup of water despite all the earnings we have had. Then why is Tetty signing a 2 year deal?
Tettey has taken a reduction in wages to stay on, so presumably those wages are now in line with the new pay structure. Wes is four years older than Tettey and great servant to the club which he was, I wouldn't say he has more to offer now. Tettey is the right decision, IMO.
Wes managed 1585 minutes this season, 14th most in the squad. The only senior players who were here all season and played less were Watkins and Husband. Against Leeds, Wes notched his first league goal of the season, and first assist since August. We've averaged 1.37 points per game this season, that drops to 1.03 with Wes in the side. Only Naismith has a worse PPG. Wes will be 36 in a couple of weeks, a 2 year contract takes him to nearly 38. Aaron Wilbraham and John Terry are the only players of that age to make a meaningful number of appearances in the Championship this season. Even this season, there are only 8 outfield players older than Wes who made any appearances at all. Behind the bare stats, it's no surprise Wes has struggled for minutes when he's had Maddison for competition. But even if Maddison leaves, there's no guarantee Wes would be first choice next season. Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell, possibly Leitner will be competition. Wes has always said he wants to play regularly, and NCFC can't make him any promises there. Whether he would have taken the greatly reduced wages Tettey has, who knows, the offer was never on the table. In contrast, the PPG stats with Tettey have already been mentioned, we go from promotion to relegation form without him (with all the appropriate caveats...). Tettey's knees have been an issue since at least 2013 (that's the earliest interview I've found on them), yet 5 years on he's still starting 20+ games a season. It was an unrelated calf issue that kept him out Oct-Dec, and it took until the 6th game of the season for Farke to realise how necessary he was. His playing time needs managing, sure, but that just means the Sat/Tues turnaround cycle is too much for him, he can still play a game per week comfortably. He's also nearly 4 years younger than Wes. I don't think anybody would want the club to start next season with injury-prone Thompson and unproven Godfrey as our only DM options. If Tettey leaves, he'd need replacing. If we're paying him £20k p/w for 2 years (and I suspect it's less), that's £2m with which to buy and pay a replacement. That buys you another Vrancic, who has needed nearly a full season to adapt to English football - by which time you'd hope Godfrey is a first team regular anyway. To me, Tettey staying makes good footballing and financial sense. Unfortunately I can't make the same case for Wes, much as I enjoy watching him play.
Wes will always be a legend! He had a great send off, managing a goal and assist. Best to leave on a high note and keep that legend status.
I agree Hoolahan has left whilst he still has the fans support, although he could have gone last summer as his contribution this season has been minimal, but leaving now shows he has a good understanding of fan support. Martin on the other hand got the same decision wrong. Tettey, well the juries still out. If he makes a good contribution next season and plays a bit part the following then he'll probably do a Wes. If he wants to play / has to play regularly for two season then may end up more like Martin.

Michael Bailey suggests that Leistner may not be coming here after all: http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...er-unlikely-to-make-canaries-switch-1-5503982 The failure to sign him instead of Franke seems like SW's biggest slip-up so far. (Why does my predictive text keep changing Franke to Frankenstein? ).
Bloomin eck, I thought it was just our half decent players we would be worried to lose! If we could get a fee for him I wouldn' be too upset Bah!
Thought on check on here to see if the severity of Maddison's injury has been discussed. Saw it somewhere that it looked like an ACL injury and could be out for around 9 months (Dozzell did his ACL on the opening day of the season and has only just begun running outside on grass) Not seen anything so assume it's either not that bad, or more likely not been announced yet. Contrary to some of the berks out there on twiiter I would feel genuinely gutted for the lad if it is that bad. He's had a tremendous season and would have been excited for a move & beginning of a new chapter in the Premier league, which he would have thoroughly deserved. If it's bad news it also leaves the club in a precarious position (if reports are to be believed of the shortfall in parachute payments next season & Maddison's sale being used to plug that gap) as no one would be willing to spend a penny of a player with any such injury, and he likely wouldn't contribute much if at all until the final few weeks of the season. So something of a double whammy for the club... Fingers crossed for him that it isn't as bad as some have mentioned (and apologies if this has already been mentioned somewhere...)
Via the Pinkun: City’s medical team is understood to have advised a period of rest to let the swelling go down before Maddison undergoes scans to assess the full extent of the knee injury suffered in the early stages of Sunday’s 5-1 Championship defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. No further update is expected until later this week, when the Canaries’ top brass will discover how long the 21-year-old is likely to be sidelined. Maddison hobbled back onto the pitch at Hillsborough on crutches to salute the travelling support in what many City fans feared was likely to be his farewell appearance ahead of a big-money Premier League move. Head coach Daniel Farke admitted after his side’s Owls defeat he was prepared for an anxious wait. “We don’t want him to be out for several weeks, hopefully not months, and the summer break is not enough for him to return,” he said. “Let us not get too far ahead of ourselves. We have to wait. There is something with the knee. We must wait for the results. It could be ligaments or the inner band. He got a hit on his knee and he felt it break a bit. It doesn’t look good. It was a duel and he slipped away from the tackle and felt something in his knee. If I am honest, it doesn’t look good at present and he doesn’t feel happy with his knee. Let’s wait what the scans say.” So nothing concrete yet, but it sounds like it'd be a surprise if he was fit for the start of next season. Financially, I think the club will be able to make things work this summer without selling Maddison, but it won't be possible to do the substantial rebuilding the management would like. Starting next season with an injured Maddison months off a return is definitely the worst case scenario.
