I have been a visitor to your board many times, and one thing that I have noticed since Klopp became manager, is that no one on this board has accused him of spunking money on deadwood players, unlike some of those signed by Rodgers and Hodgson. I just don´t think Jurgen has made a single bad signing, and this contrasts with Mourhinjo (Shaw, possibly Pogba), Guardiola (Stones), Wenger (Chambers, Mustafi, and many others), so perhaps he has more foresight. I would also suggest if a player crosses him, he does it privately and does not demean him, unlike others who berate their players publicly if they have an off-day. This is one reason why you are going to Kiev.

Yep - and the committee used to get a lot stick as well before Klopp arrived.

Maybe they’re not so bad after all ...

It's a non starter, I was willing to pay quite a lot but it's crazy money.

Can always get a ticket over there outside the stadium through 'other means', bit risky though I guess if you're gonna drive thousands of miles for it <laugh> You should go and do a trip report with stops in France for Rhc and of course a tour of @Nozzer 's basement

He's actually been quite frugal. As fans it is frustrating at times because we think we need this player or that player only for the windows to come and go and those positions not be filled. Klopp seems to have a 'type' of player he likes. If he can't get his target he won't take a 'lesser' player.

When all is said and done though, he's managed to get to a CL final on almost a shoe string compared to the Real's and city's of the football world. Spending wisely is just one of his skills - getting the best out of what he already has is an even greater skill.

This is probably why Klopp has come in for criticism from some quarters - he didn't go in for the radical overhaul looking for the quick fix in the way that most modern managers do. He goes for the players he wants and is not tempted by the scattergun approach we've become used to. The progress has been slow but steady.
The squad is a bit short on depth, but I think that any of our fans thinking that there will be a significant influx this summer may well be disappointed.
The success in the CL - regardless of whether or not we win it - might help him to get the right players, but I can't see too many new faces arriving. The improvement of a squad with careful, judicious signings is how things were done in the past before the megabucks turned up and allowed some to virtually buy a squad wholesale.
The next couple of seasons should show whether he has set a workable blueprint for the foreseeable future.
I also think the owners deserve some credit for giving him the time to do it.

They stick Bobby at the back so that the glare from his gnashers doesn't spoil the exposure setting.

I would put Karius and Klaven down as bad buys but neither broke the bank. I thought we overpaid for Ox, but he's been better than I had expected so maybe not.

I'm happy with Klopp's signings, he's done better than any manager in recent memory (for Liverpool). When he spends big he generally gets it right.

Rafa, Rodgers, Houllier, Hodgeson (spit)... They all tried to change so much so quick. Especially Rafa and Rodgers. We'd sign a dozen players in a season and only a couple would stick.

I like what Klopp is doing. Fewer signings but a lot more thought going into the signings. Quality not quantity. It's what we've been begging for for years.

I'm sure he's crying into his gold coins and blowing his nose on wads of 500euro notes.
