WTF is wrong with laughing? Get fekking real. I once took a girl to the pictures to see national lampoons animal house and the 'hand job' sketch made her make the dirtiest laugh I've ever heard from a woman. At the time I was embarrassed as the whole cinema turned around and googled us. However, the poor girl later got involved with heroin and committed suicide. I now remember her, and that laugh with so much warmth I overheat when I think about it. Live and let live I say. Feck em all.
Quite true. I notice this a lot on Quora, that I write on a lot, in that really ludicrous theories are accepted almost because they are not mainstream. The idea that all the accepted version of history is wrong because someone has a new wacky theory is quite bizarre if you properly think it through. As for tolerance, yes I believe it's much reduced in modern times. BUT I do maintain that the situation at the film was an exception, because if we are saying we must tolerate that behaviour (for whatever reason causes it) then we are saying that one persons rights is more important than the entire rest of the audience, whose enjoyment of the film will certainly be reduced. So are we saying that when the announcement comes on screen to switch off your phones and stop talking there should be a disclaimer to the effect that 'if anyone behaves like an asshole don't do anything because they might be autistic'? This effectively means there is no guarantee of a good atmosphere at an event you may have paid a lot for and could be a special occasion. 99% of the time it will be because the person disrupting is an asshole, but just in case we'd better not do anything. I promise you that if I know I'm likely to disrupt the enjoyment of a very large number of other people I will do everything possible to avoid that. So I guess I'm just a bad person - but I also guarantee that a lot of people might think differently had they been in that film audience.
Looking at it from another angle, it is telling that the BFI heavies dragged somebody out for being quote-unquote disruptive, yet at the average multiplex there's all manner of assholish behaviour from the patrons that routinely goes unchecked because so many multiplexes run on a skeleton staff so there's no actual ushers anymore to tell people to simmer down and the only time staff ever enter the screen is to clean up afterwards (although that's not always a given either) There's times where I've wondered why I don't just give myself a free upgrade to the VIP seats at my local Vue given there's never going to be anyone checking tickets once I've left the foyer, there's only every been two occasions when I've done this: when I specified a seat yet the ticket seller gave me a really **** one with an obstructed view, and once when I got one of those Coke remix cups as they genuinely don't fit in the standard cupholders so I didn't want to spill half a gallon of cherry Sprite everywhere.
Can't believe we don't have a Ref watch thread. I'll leave this here for everyone's amusement https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43966545
Yes, there is no doubt that the BFI security were very heavy handed in their approach. I also agree that there is too much asshole behaviour that routinely goes unchecked at the local cinema (Vue Finchley by any chance?)
Vue Croydon, which has a reputation as being a cheap day out - because if you buy a ticket for an early screening, it's pretty easy to just go from one screen to another and watch as many films as you like without paying. I've legit had people ask me what film I'm going to see as I walk in, so it's clear that plenty of people are trying their luck and getting away with it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/43988433 Probably just as well. Nemanja Vidic would be a different proposition.
Given his kids have not long since lost their mum, he's a **** for even considering it. That said, I'm one of many that would pay good money to see him take a battering if he'd got a licence. Him and Michael Owen....and Owen Hargreaves......and.......
What Spurcat meant to type (but his rage prevented him) was : Spurs logo top with jeans and flip-flops !!??
Just got back from West Brom and I was absolutely steaming about our pathetic performance. Then heard about Sir Alex being seriously ill, and it puts things in perspective. I thought he looked so well when he made that presentation to Wenger last week. Hopefully he can pull through.
