It's a struggle to get an atmosphere going when the stadium is full, but when it's half full like it was on Monday, then there's no chance. Doesn't help when the tourists come in with their buckets of popcorn. I ask you, who the eff eats buckets of popcorn at a football match ? If you want to eat such muck, then go to the cinema.

I can remember when players played 42 league games and not counting cup games. Didn't someone say " men were men in those days, pussies today!?"

The 81-82 season was 66 games.
Squad was nearly 50% smaller too.

That season our form dropped off a cliff. Frankly, we were fairly fortunate to beat QPR in the FA Cup Final. When we were winning games it was fine, as soon as we started to lose, the tiredness really showed. When we lost the LC Final, we won 3 out of 10 remaining league games.

It's all about momentum at this time of the season. Having a good squad helps.....as does putting some of them on the pitch from time to time......

The small matter of having FIVE league games in
hand near the end of the season didn't help either the
    league or UEFA campaigns.

That is REAL "season killer cup" .

They must have robbed Sports Direct and Boots the chemist on the same evening.

I remember Dutch fans running around the Spurs ground looking for Spurs fans after the UEFA Final !st leg. Should have known what would happen in Holland in the 2nd leg....and they blamed the Spurs fans!

  13. That could have been one of the greatest seasons the club has ever known. Coming away with a scrappy FAC win was a huge let down, but totally the result of burn out - no bottling involved!! <laugh>

That's what people fail to understand about football: players aren't machines and can't be expected to go all-out for 45/50/55 gaems of a season as if it's nothing, and by complete coincidence it's usually around the fifty game mark that the previous 49 games catch up to them.

The problem is that, as our squad currently stands, that was always a possibility this season due to the various gaps in our squad that have all been exposed at various points since August - although, to be honest, several of us on here have been wary about this for two or three seasons at least.

  15. Squad formation notwithstanding, Poch should have been braver at certain times with rotation and use of subs. We are paying the price for that - and have been for nearly a month.......

The one thing that's got me this season is how he froze when both Toby and Vic went down and persisted with three at the back even though it meant our central midfield lacked any real cover, which led to the run of games in November when were were using pivots made up of two of Dembele, Winks and Sissoko against Arsenal, West Brom and Leicester - a run that gave us a solitary point while, in comparison, Arsenal got a couple of blatantly offside goals.

    Indeed.

However, very proud of the boys that season, and
the reason I won't hear any s**t about fatigue etc
for the current day squads, when the manager has
much bigger squads, better rules for subs etc.

Looks like the regular commentator's got the boot. Radio pundits, I think. BBC London or something?

Trippier's nutmegs were quite nice. Didn't notice at the time.
Could Lamela be the answer to our back-up striker problem? Worked against Bournemouth.
