Nick your right about the gear, you`ll definately remember the old leather `casies` with the leather bootlace and inner bladder,it was like kicking and heading a medicine ball in the wet!! It is a totally different game now. I think because of the difference in the pace of the game today it`s impossible to compare players and managers for that matter.I know you can`t stand Tony Pulis but even you will have to admit he must be doing something right with the limited squad we have, which ,if reports are right,is about to be greatly improved shortly ( PALACIOS) :emoticon-0105-wink:

NO you can't compare the two is honest enough. But Skill is something you either have or you don't. Hudson a prime example, he let the ball do the talking. He didn't need to be quick. His feet were and his football brain was too! Apart from George Best he's the most gifted player I've EVER seen.. Messi is another but a different type of player. Would Hudson be able to play today's game. I'm sure he would... oh and Sir Stanley two words to describe him "Pure Genius"

I think ,for those who saw him,the vote is unanimous,Hudson was the best we saw at Stoke ( Sir Stan excepted, when I saw him live it was when he returned and he was well into his forties then!!

Quite right Joe, I remember Sir Stan's testimonial very well. Not old enough to give an honest oppinion on Sir Stan only those like my dad and uncle who took me too se that game. It was his last for the Potter's, so Hudson gets my vote too!

The old man would agree with you. He loved Hudson. He's often said of him that he was an England player Sven would've liked. He also says of Greenhoff, that he was the best volleyer he ever saw but I think quite a few had the same opinion, he also says Greenhoff was the best English player never to play for England.

When Hudson and Alan Ball ran the midfield against Germany - we won 3-1 - I think Ron Greenwood wa the manager just after the 1980 world cup I THINK, he was (Hudson) fabulous, next game Revie played him on the right wing!!

Huddy told him to eff off and he never played for England again.

Whem Waddo bought him, he was a whisker away from a double deal with Osgood, unfortunately Ossy went to Southampton!!

    I wish!!!!

I think my Dad said to me, that England played someone like Malta and only beat them 1-0 or something, and all of the team played poorly but Huddy seemed to get victimised for it and never got picked again.

Surely Mark Chamberlain would have got into either of the sides..... Georgie Bury perhaps on the bench?

    Two of my 80's idols.
