Nature is the only religion that won't let you down. Us pagans don't put our faith in false prophets, icons and fairytales. Only the things that we can touch, taste, hear and smell are worth our ultimate appreciation. Trees, tides, animals, elements etc are everyday miracles that we can all access for free. Nature doesn't judge or condemn, and it certainly doesn't expect tithes and coins - it just needs respect. Don't get me wrong, I am intensely passionate about religious buildings and the blood, sweat and tears that went into building them, and I've spent many an hour rooting about in crypts and other dark, dank spaces within churches, cathedrals and chantry chapels, yet the sinister credos underpinning man-made religion should be taken with the largest pinch of salt possible. In short, get out in the open air and breathe.
Fulham’s owner wants to buy Wembley for £600m. The FA should bite his hand off - an absolute white elephant.
Agree 100%. We don’t need a national football stadium - there’s loadsa great stadiums in this country
Imagine what that kind of money could do to rejuvenate grass-roots football in this country. FA Cup Finals can be played at the Cardiff Stadium like they were when Wembley was being rebuilt. Or at one of the big grounds in England if it's home team is not in the Final (Old Trafford, the Emirates, St James' Park in Newcastle). Just leave out the prawn sandwich corporate tourists and pack in 50,000+ real football fans. Association Football grew and thrived in this country for more than fifty years before there was a Wembley Stadium. It can continue to do the same for even longer without Wembley. The heart and spirit of English Football does not reside in a building or a stadium for me. It is in the love of fans for the game.
How much of this would go to grass-roots football though? Very little I would expect. Football in Britain doesn't work that way. England games have a far better atmosphere away from Wembley. The FA have been offered anywhere from £500m to £900m depending on who you believe. One thing you can be sure of- someone at the FA will make a killing if the sale goes through.
The “Wembley White Elephant Project” is still heavily in debt - by around £150m. Any sale would result in that having to be paid off first. The original Twin Towers Wembley was a fantastic, iconic building. The new Wembley is a ten a penny identikit Stadium. It seems like the FA are keen to get it off their hands.
I always did think the arch makes it look somewhat like a big fairground ride. I've never been there, but hopefully in a few weeks we might get the opportunity...
Governing bodies / Governments have no business getting involved in “projects” like the new Wembley. It should be left entirely to private capital, if at all.
That stupid midget preening selfie king lightweight show pony media tart can’t control crime failure Sadiq Khan is mouthing off about it now.
Love it. Brilliant to see Boring Ronnie get knocked out early. You’ve got a great chance - think it’s between him & Mark Williams.
Always the way, wish I staked more. Going to Rome on Tuesday and the final is Monday night, would set me up nicely for a few drinks. Missing at least the possible playoff first leg is a huge bummer. Bookies pricing Ding as the favourite surprises me, as you say, Williams and also Hawkins seem more of a threat in that half of the draw
My initial bet was on Ryan Day...looking for a bit of value but he flattered to deceive. I have now invested on Mark Williams. Your man JH is the “class” in the field. I can’t have Ding at any price - a proven bottler on the big stage - only fav because of the Chinese gambling money.
Day looked decent against McGill, then when he went 8-5 up he couldn't pot anything, strange collapse. Williams is 13/2 on betfair, think that's incredible value, might have a bit on him to cover myself
