Tevez, Berbatov and Carrick were top players we couldn't hope to get. Nani was a good buy overall. You only have to buy a sprinkling when the existing first 11 is class.
You paid more for Mascherano than we did for Tevez when they were both being offered around to every club. It's nice that Carrick is appreciated now. Throughout his United career he was slated by opposition fans!
who exactly did we buy that were stars? Chelsea spent a load of money granted but the players we bought were hardly world known stars in that period
The only players we signed that I had heard of in Ranieri's first spree of the Roman era, were Veron and Joe Cole, and thats only because we signed them from other PL clubs and we had played against them. And Veron ended up being ****e I had never heard of Mutu, Crespo, Cech, Robben or Kezman. And of those, only Cech stayed with us and had any level of sustained success. The rest either sucked or were out the door within 2 seasons. Shevchenko was the first big name we signed under the Roman era I think. And he also sucked And then Torres (who sucked). Maybe we should stick clear of big named player?
ironically, it was our big name signings that failed. Robben, Kezman, Mutu, Cech were up and coming. Arguably Robben would have been equivalent to nowadays Sane (although all the new comers are snapped up nowadays compared to back then). Crespo was a big name though so he would have been one you could mention. Veron was a big name and Jo Cole was up and coming and a bargain from relegated west ham. Later on when Jose joined, he bought in his own players but non that were really names. Tiago, Ferreira, Carvalho and Drogba with Droba probably being the most famous cause he scored a few goals in the europy i think for Marseille. None were big superstars but we did what City did when they got rich and just splashed the cash
yes but everyone thought they were **** and got lucky to fluke it to the title. They were known, but it's probably the equivalent of buying lindelof (okay maybe a bit better). They were hardly in the Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Rio Ferdinand (when he was at united), Alessandro Nesta etc. We did pay star money at them though in order to get them. Carvalho became world class... Ferreira the less said the better lol. I remember we bought him, he ****s up in game 1 of Euros and he's dropped for Andrade for the rest of the tournament.
... but a piss ant club for whom the manager of your more illustrious neighbours may well jump ship for ... that must make you lot a piss ant's anal mite of a club... if we are using insect analogies
You are right actually, I had heard of Crespo, from his time with Lazio. I used to wa He was a decent player for us, just never settled in England though, missed Italy too much. Our other 2 strikers Mutu and Kezman, turned out to be a coke head and a clown respectively.
I'll take it on the chin, Fosse. (There's an opportunity for you) Football life is very up and down, things can change in the blink of an eye. I wouldn't be surprised to see us switch positions in 10 years. We'll be back sometime. It just could be a while
Well played Saffy .. great response to the wum element ... Can't see our positions being reversed to your timescale tbh... our owners seem to be intent on throwing shed loads of money at the club in the next few seasons and the youth teams are doing incredibly well right now ... but I do expect you to come up next season Looks like our number 2, Michael Appleton is one of the favourites for the job at yours .... think he would be a good for, to be fair
Hartlepool ... but not for their manager .. was surprised to see us being linked with Rafa ... but chancesvaee we will have one of the top 7 budgets in the Prem .... and money does tend to reflect your chances of success ...
You’d never heard of crespo before he joined Chelsea? The guy that was brought for a world record fee from parma a few years before you brought him? that pretty much makes all other footballing comments from you bull and void bod
