So Bruce spent 10 mill aprox on the apparently one of the best young up and coming strikers at the minute! Now i was under the impression that he would get quite a bit of game time but now Bruce is talking about 18 months down the line hell be a really good striker for us! Now when Wickham came on today he looked fresh and got into some really good positions and was screeming for the ball but nee ****er would pass to him, he also tracked back and put in some good tackles, he looks fit and eager to me! So if we dont get a proven striker in then we have to give this lad a chance to become great and realise his potential and can we really afford to spend this kind of money on a bench warmer? Also how many young players do we see in the premiership that have bags of potential then go to a big club, sit on the bench and because of little game time just end up fading into the background to be forgotten as they were never given a chance! I think his age is a weapon that not all prem players have, when your 18 your fearless and you think your invinsable, i dont think anything will phase him! Play Wickham Bruce coz if you dont its a waste of money and well end up not being able to sell him! I think hes gona be ace!
Unfortunately I've only seen the motd highlights but the effectiveness of 442 and Sess with 2 ahead of him was evident. Sess playing a lovely ball through for gyan, wickham peeling off into space and gyan could have knocked it sideways for an easy tap in for wickham. if we don't sign anymore id have sess on the left and gyan and wickham upfront.
TBF to Bruce, and I dont know him so just a guess, at 18 and untried in the prem I would say 12 to 18 months would be fair and to say any sooner could be heaping pesure on the lad. If he gets in and shines, signes are he might, then he will play IMO and Sess on the left is a no brainer to me.
What he said, think it's the only way to go if we get no-one in. even if we bring in a 1st choice partner for Gyan, I'd say Whickham gets at least 20 minutes a game, longer if we're comfortably winning you only get the experience by playing in games.
Dont agree at all like Syd. Rooney was like 16 when he first played in a prem game and Wickham is nearly 19! I think the kids got no fear like! Theres not that much difference between the top of the championship and the prem! hes our best option when theres a Gyan that cant be arsed coz hell work his socks off! Just my oppinion like
I think we agree TBH. I'm saying I think its why Bruce said 12 to 18 months, to keep the prssure of the lad but yes, if he hacks it and I think he will then I think he will be in.
Agree with Niall,Vaux and Parker,we have to play Wickham....he is good enough, and if Gyan hadn't been greedy,he'd have opened his account with a premiership goal!!
Yeh i see, but think Bruce is being too cautious if hes thinking 18 months! The lad cost 8 mill minimum so he must have the tallent so we should play him IMO.
Looking how we started the game yesterday, and how we'd potentially line up, I'd know which team I'd prefer to go with and it's not the one where Sess is played up front tbh. Ming Brown - O'shea - Anton - Bardsley Larsson - Catts - Gardener - Colback Sess Gyan Ming Brown - O'shea - Anton - Bardsley Larsson - Catts - Gardener/Colback/Vaughan - Sess Gyan - Whickham
I'm not sure he is thinking 18mths, just my reading but I think he is giving him 18ths to keep the pressure of him but hoping he will be in a lot sooner, ow if ready. Truth is we will never know, just how you read things but the main thing is, yesterday was the most comfortable I have seen Wickham and he could well be ready.
I hope that the problem Bruce has for Chelsea is, Gardner or Colback Witch two from Gyan/Wickham/Ji/Newbie/Newbie
Colback for me, with Wicka up front. Looking to use the Catts n Colback to try and stop chelski playing through the centre, and we look to use the wings to provide the creativity. Not sure what else we can do, other than 5 across the midfield but then our chances at goal will be minimal. This way we can at least have a go at them. Assuming we get no one else in before the window shuts, which I think at this point is prob. 50/50. I'd rather not build a team around potential signings but look at what we're certain to have.
Then I would go the same, Gardner just looks like he is not right, dont know why but his bady language looked wrong, maybe he is trying to hard but Catts/Colback and Gyan/Wickham. If they dont do it then I hope Bruce bites the bullett and replaces Gyan with Ji and not Wickham for Ji
Spot on, whikham to bully their defenders, Ji may be too light weight at the moment to start, but if we're chasing the game (more than likely) and if Gyan's not quite doing it , then throw Ji on to run at them.
One thing that avb has chelsea doing this season that motd pointed out is that they are defending with a very high line and neither of their centre halves are quick so they are getting caught out over the top and with angled through balls. Sess has shown that he is very capable of finding these weighted through balls for gyan to run onto, id go for it against chelsea 4-4-2. They aren't firing yet and I'm hoping the lack of a game this weekend may benefit us more (hopefully bed 2 new players in and work on gelling things together. Current squad line up; .......................mig................... Oshea..brown....anton.....bardo.. larssen....catts....gardner....sess .............wickhan....gyan.............
