Well done Wes! I have never seen such a lucky goal in all my life. Massive deflection, hit one post, and hit the other, then in. Insane.
That sort of goal is usually scored against us. Credit to Wes for just going for it rather than one more pass.
So today we had 8 blocked shots and 7 last week, so as DF said yesterday, we need to convert more of our 'shots on goal' to 'shots on target' or even goals. If he can find the solution to that next season ...... I think Hernandez could be a key player for us next season. Edit – I’m CONSIDERING getting a shared ST for next season (with another ‘over 65’)!! Overall, I’ve been impressed with what SW/DF are trying to do, both with ‘one hand tied behind their backs’ as regards to finances and only a few of their ‘bargain basement’ signings have turned out to be duds. On the flip side, Trybull as a free, Vrancic (ever improving), Zimmerman and Hernandez have been quite astute signings and I’m confident that SirBenny will come good. #watchthisspace
I thought hernandez did really well in his cameo this afternoon, gave their left back a real headache. Could be a big player for us next season. The match was weird, just seemed to open up at around 60 min. Mark, up to then had been tedious, but we looked good after that I thought.
18 shots with 5 on target is passable, but that is where we need to improve next season if we're going to compete for promotion. DF has greatly improved the defence and developed an effective midfield which is creating enough chances but not enough of those are being converted into goals. IMO that's down to the players, although SW bears some responsibility for not bringing in a third striker (selling Jerome and bringing in Srbeny in his place wasn't enough). With the exception of Franke, the signings have worked out ok but required a lot of adjustment pains in the process. Some, like Watkins have underachieved and we haven't seen enough of Stiepermann in his favoured position to really make a judgement but we should start off next season with a much more settled squad ready from the off if we can bring in that all important striker.
Whenever JM is interviewed, he always comes across as just a really well spoken and eoqueelo man - the complete opposite to Becks in his early days especially!?!?
