the problem is there's published info that shaw is the fittest utd player, even valancia doesn't beat him in testing.

utd can't have it both way.

i think salary structure is more when they are established.

I'm not sure either yourselves or spuds are going to be whacking out 100k contracts to an up and coming player (unless they are some sort of wonderkid). I'm presuming by these youth players we're talking about youth players with a lot of potential like Gomez, Can (at the time), Alli etc rather than the likes of Sane, Wayne Rooney (back in the day), Neymar (i'm struggling here <laugh>) if you know what i mean.

holding teams over a barrel i mean selling players cheap and easily (and too right you shouldn't). You held onto Coutinho for another half a season (apparantly barca were taking the piss, who really knows) but you made an absolutely killing over him. Likewise, for ****ty players like Ibe, Benteke, Brad Jones, you sold them for a lot more than they were worth (at the time). Oh and Sterling (that one went on for a while).

I don't see much difference dealing with liverpool as dealing with spurs. Both drive a hard bargain which is the point of the long contracts you offer out.

Suarez still went for a big money at the time and you made him stay another year when he didn't want to.

He even went as far as to bite chillieni to get a move (again!).

If he didn't do that who knows how much you would have charged!

Most players still have their heads turned by the money. If Utd, Chelsea, or City offer £80k a week, are they really going to sign for us or Spurs on £50k a week just because they may get more chance to play?

Very few players, especially the younger ones, can see further than the money and the next flash car.

I agree we are talking can, origi, grujic, gomez types. the 5-15mil punts that you stick into u23s or loan out and such.

Can't you name any of the 23 lads out on loan at your lot :bandit:

Coutinho wouldn't be included. holding him for 6 months trying to hold him and they pay us such a massive amount then that's different. when we bought coutinho FIRST then we could talk wunderkind as our german friend would say.

when we bought sterling for 450k from QPR. then he would be in. did his agent place us with us cos we offered most or were best place to go for a 15 year old?

I don't know but he changed agent to aidy ward and off they went

oh i meant i was finding it hard to find a Young player who was so highly rated and played a lot that they could demand a fat wage and a big transfer fee, not all these cheapo ones who are up and coming and would be sitting on the bench/rotated in for a bit part chance.

The second part about Sterling and Coutinho wasn't about them being up and comers when you got them (although that is also true), it was about dealing with Liverpool on their terms which is the same as Levy as spurs when trying to buy their players.

It's tough to call out players at that age that should demand the big bucks tbh. Some will make it, some won't buy my point is not just about money, it's about where they have the best chance to actually make it. For me, atm, it's Liverpool or Spurs. Agents are to blame for ruining or delaying quite a few good careers while chasing money for themselves and placing players at clubs that may not work well for them. Frankly, this needs to be addressed for the good of the game. Sadly, unless UEFA get the EU to legislate for football, it is not possible to stop it. But that's an entirely different thread!

Muzzle him and shackle him between games. Suarez and Salah at the same time would be fantastic. Shame we couldn't hold onto him longer.

Salah's speed and skill and Suarez's creativity and trickery. How would you defend against that?

exactly. Thats why i don't think that you boys paying out more in salary that the spuds makes a difference in snapping up these youth players.

It's about opportunity and development (unless one of the bigger clubs offer some obscene wages). If it was a choice between yourselves or spurs, it would be a hard choice for a young player to choose.

dunno, for someone who was suspended for 6 months (i think that happened afterwards), was a load of baggage, i think 65m was quite a lot in 2014/15. It was also Suarez's first world class season

Even Diego Costa only went for 32m.

I guess the only mitigating circumstance was Bale went for 91m the season before but that was Real being Real, a bit like PSG buying Neymar for 200m rather than couts for 140m.
