If you want Safe Standing here is a petition to support it - https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/207040
Not for me personally but thanks. What's a likely scenario for fans who are aposed to this if it goes through as clubs will obviously want to adopt this. Is it tough **** to people like me as it got voted in or will we have an option to sit?
Most clubs seem to suggest will have an area within a stand for standing. Not gonna make whole stadiums standing so you’ll still have sitting in family areas etc. Personally if its safe then dont see an issue. If everyone wants to stand in that area then makes sense rather than having some people stand, some sitting and not being able to see etc
It will benefit people who want to sit down, because those who persistently stand now will have their own area!
Safe standing(rail seats)require different gradients in the concrete steps in football stadiums than with their current seating, do you think every club can afford to just replace their present seating with rail seating? Also would supporters pay as much or even more to stand for 90 minutes when it's the same or cheaper to sit? Most clubs will reject using standing if it's eventually allowed by the government, it's like turkey's not voting for Christmas.
Do you think every club can afford to just replace their present seating with rail seating? - I haven't got access to every Clubs accounts so I cannot answer that question. However, changing legislation will allow those Clubs who want to change to do so. Also would supporters pay as much or even more to stand for 90 minutes when it's the same or cheaper to sit? - Supporters at all Clubs pay different prices to sit in different seats. It's a matter of choice. Most clubs will reject using standing if it's eventually allowed by the government, it's like turkey's not voting for Christmas. That is your own assumption.
imo it will be choice and standing will be seen by the younger as the macho thing. same as flares. once standing cones in away fans will simply stand enmasse imo.. safe rail or no. the assumption is 1.8 to 1 in area to reduce prices of tickets as well so those advocating will be I'm Happy if it doesn't turn up
Away fans already stand - in areas not designed for standing! I think there were a few home fans standing on Tuesday night, leading to an incredible atmosphere
I know but they can be told to do so. My view is the authorities won't even be able to do that the issue here is not really whether a small section gets this but both home and away gets it and what controls then are possible. If someone sets off a flare.. if someone throws something etc can you identify. THe stystem itself for safety imo it not in issue at 1:1 the issue is if you go 1.8:1 and try to evacuate the place the access and egress is not sufficient wihtout completely taking the stand apart. the kop for example would require a total rebuild to make it actually happen.
Thing is my "own assumption" is based on common sense, yours is based on something that won't cost part of your income. I'm not against safe standing im just pointing out that clubs are hardly likely to spend on something they'll lose out on financially, for instance, one rail seat takes the space of 2 normal seats, less people equal less revenue. The bigger stadiums as Celtic have shown can accommodate small safe standing areas without affecting an overall re-design of a whole stand. The days of terracing will never return whether we like it or not, I used to love my time standing in the Spion Kop, the atmosphere was electric back in the day, but I hope after the Parliamentary debate there is a vote n the commons and safe seating is allowed, we might then see which clubs are prepared to go along with their fans wishes and those clubs that see it as a financial loss and refuse to install rail seats.
Government still very much against it. Personally I'm taking my lead from the Hillsborough Families. Maybe that's a bit wishy-washy from me but if it comes to clubs voting and the HFSG are for it, then so am I. If they vote against it, then so do I.
The reasons THF's are against it are admirable, they don't want parents, relatives, loved ones or friends to go through what they did in terms of loss, the vast majority of them weren't/aren't match going supporters and still have those horrible scenes at Hillsborough etched deep into their memories. But safe standing in modern stadia comes without the overcrowding and dangerous barriers often the wrong height and unfit for purpose, it also comes without thousands of supporters heading for small terrace exits all at once. THF's have fought the good fight over the years but I think the present voice for introducing safe standing will be eventually heard whether the families back it or not, I still think money will win out over the cost of introducing it at many clubs.
It's probably the only subject I'm not guided by my own opinion. I've read the reports from the meetings SOS had about safe standing where everyone expressed their views. Some of the survivors and their families are for it, some against. In my view, while some are still against it, so am I. I actually think unless there's overwhelming support for it from the HFSG, then LFC won't introduce it. The Justice Group have no collective opinion on it.
Yeah, totally agree with your LFC point, thing with SOS is they speak for themselves but are seen as the voice of LFC supporters.
Each club to their own if it's deemed safe enough. I know atmosphere comparisons show up seated in the negative but looking/hearing the likes of Anfield on Tuesday night is it really a valid reason? I haven't looked into this but what is the list of advantages for safe standing? Genuine question.
Nor me, I know they started off on the wrong foot with the singing about Utd's tragedy at the Olympia concert but as they've evolved they've proven to have moved on and grown up. For example they take a load of food and other essentials to away games to help stock up their areas food banks.
While there has been a marginal shift within the HFSG in favour of it, opinion is still divided. So when you talk about "fans' wishes," you're making a big assumption that they all agree with you. It'll lead to segregation of the family demographic and, for want of a better word, lad demographic. The ability for humans to succumb to a mob mentality isn't something that can be factored into the argument and I never see it mentioned but I left games because of it when I was a kid. Ticket prices drop and more people are allowed in. That's a commercial balancing act with safety I wouldn't want the Premier League involved in. That's like putting a fox in charge of the chicken coop.
