Ok, back in 2004 Pele along with FIFA put forward a list of the 100 best players to have played the game (including many playing at the time and a couple still playing now!) At a cursory glance I can see one player who played for Sunderland - who! (NB- 5 who played for Newcastle, though only a couple at their peak and only one who was actually really good for us)
Nope to any of those. I'll be blunt about the player in question, it's a hard answer to take as he shouldn't be in the top 100 players to play for Sunderland let alone a FIFA 100 list of best players ever.
Trying to think of a player we've had who once came out of a world cup with massive hype around that time. Obviously, he'll have been playing for another club then.
I reckon in 2004 when the list was made he hadn't played for you yet. I've not checked dates but I think it's correct to say that but your assessment is a good one.
Nope to any of the above. You've had a few who I thought could have been on there (who you haven't mentioned yet) but weren't.
Nooo! It only ****ing could be too. Not that little scroat Douif? Pele gets a hard on for africans and it was around the Jay jay okocha time when a few africans got big moves.
Now if you fancy a laugh have a look at the similar thread on the Newcastle board. Albert got his name wrong (wrote El Hadj Diouf) and I said no so he kept guessing. I'm going to wait about another 10 minutes before telling him the answer. Oh the banter.
Yup. According to Pele the greatest Sunderland player ever. Now that is an atrocity! The list makes interesting reading to be honest. 80 players who I'd say you can't hugely argue with and then some token suggestions. No Welsh players, which is a bold decision!
