The PL/Championship you need to be consistence, in a cup game you just need ta bit of luck (see Liverpool or Wigan)
Winning the Premier League ... you have to be the best over 38 games in the most competitive league in the world. One reason our clubs don't do well in Europe is that they have to play the European fixtures whilst playing in the most competitive league in the world either side of those fixtures
I tend to agree. Its forerunner the InterCities Fairs Cup was also an extremely difficult one to win. Not only did you have to finish in a particular league position (although I can't for the life of me figure out what position that was) you also had to be from a city that had held a Trade Fair. Only Leeds (Twice) Newcastle and Arsenal havve the honour of winning that trophy. Edit: From Wiki While the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup is recognised as the predecessor to the UEFA Cup, it was not organised by UEFA. Consequently, UEFA does not consider clubs' records in the Fairs Cup to be part of their European record. However, FIFA does view the competition as a major honour.
This ^^^ Exactly why the like of Real Madrid and Barca have been seen as the best teams on the planet in recent years. Winning the CL is the pinnacle of club football. The PL comes close as you have to be consistent, but due to how many utter **** teams we have in the PL it's only really a fight between a few clubs. Excluding the year Lesta Westa won it, but they're back to being utter ****, so normal service resumes.
So you are going to go against FIFA's ranking of the Fairs Cup then? Just jealous because you have only ever won Domestic Trophies I guess.
I'd have to go with CL too. The Premier League is a big achievement because it's over 38 games. But the CL pits the best teams in Europe against each other and whilst it's a cup comp, it's got a mini league in the group stages and the KO's are over two legs.
