Is it just me or has all the hype about legacy and Hull remaining City of Culture until Coventry take over starting to look a bit thin?

Nothing much seems to be happening and the atmosphere around the place has changed palpably.
I'm just hoping that we haven't missed the opportunity to keep the momentum going and instead got a load of staff in place with very little to do.

I know the infrastructure work is on-going but there doesn't seem to be much coming from the City of Culture team

    Hope I'm wrong!

Thanks for that - you are right though, there isn't a great deal of publicity.

I'd also be interested to see things that aren't just a venue or theatres standard programme and see what the legacy company is doing in it's own right.

Been a few stories of people not knowing how to behave around cultural events recently. In addition to this, there were a group of hecklers at the Carpenters Story at the City Hall a week or two back, then some pissed up muppets got thrown out of the Derren Brown show at the New Theatre at the weekend and one of them took a dump outside the theatre.

Spring opening for Hull city centre farm Rooted in Hull is set to open to the public in Hull city centre later in the spring.

An urban farm project in Hull city centre is almost ready to open to the public, following the delivery of two new containers which will be used as a cafe and shop to sell the farm’s fresh produce.

Students from Hull College have been working on the construction and fitting out of containers at Rooted in Hull, a project which is taking shape at the derelict dry dock in St Peter’s Street.

The derelict dry dock in St Peter's Street, Hull is being transformed for the project. The scheme, which recently reached its one-year milestone, has received support from more than 30 businesses and organisations from Hull and the surrounding areas.

It has been developed to introduce a community space for growing fresh fruit and vegetables and rearing livestock to help local people learn more about food and nutrition, farming and distribution. Adrian Fisher, the project’s co-founder, said: “Our aim is to help people improve their understanding of food and get them involved in the process of growing fresh fruit and vegetables, to encourage a healthier, happier way of living and fight to end food poverty. “It is centred around education, employment and creating a more robust workforce. Local businesses are interested in investing in the health and wellbeing of potential local employees, as well as economic stability and a big part of tackling this is to get more people back into work or onto new career paths.”

The site is expected to be opened to the public later in the spring.

I think it shows what a difference it made having the blue-coated volunteers hanging around the installations too.

I took a walk through Victoria Square at 10.00am last week. The fountains were full of chavvy kids, the benches were full of drunks and the chavs parents and people were sleeping in shop doorways or staggering around like zombies. I'm not a snob but I would not be impressed if I were visiting the City for the first time - it looked like they were shooting a scene from Shameless

Sadly society is mostly ****ed, there are clearly many reasons but poor parenting certainly hasn't helped.

Sorry to say, similar to something I nearly posted a couple of weeks ago having wandered round the city centre on a Sunday afternoon.
Similar to how you describe. I'd add that I struggled to hear English voices. Those I did were mainly chavs (kids and parents) and down and outs.
Some great stuff happened to and in the City last year, but jeez, the other Sunday was a thoroughly depressing experience.
And yes, only the same as in many other cities and towns across the country.
Our politicians (of both parties) seem to have done their best to **** up 'our' country over the decades, and it seems to only be getting worse. A different model is needed, as the prevailing one isn't working. Maybe Brexit will help in the long term, although the short term could be ugly (hence the nonsense in voting on the deal to exit - it isn't about the initial deal, it's about the long term).
Anyway, back to Hull. Lot's still to be done. Hopefully there is a continuing, thriving legacy. It's desperately needed.
(And yes, before some smart arse says it, written by someone from the **** hole that Driff has become. As said, the 'system' isn't working).
