The battle for the trainers championship in Ireland has produced some staggering fields on day 1 at Punchestown, none more so that the Boylesports Champion Chase where Willie Mullins has Ballycasey v Douvan v Min v Un de Sceaux. Unheard of Reminds me of a few years ago in England when Martin Pipe and Paul Nicholls went head-to-head over the last couple of weeks of the UK jumps season.
That champion chase field is incredible but equally as exciting is the 3 mile novice chase. I expect Douvan to cruise it and Shattered Love to get the better in the latter.
Last minute decision to go to Sandown on Saturday. Anyone know where I can get cheap tickets or jockey club vouchers ?
No need for such shenanigans in the Isle, this term, as one chap is way ahead of everyone else. I look forward to seeing the great man crowned, once again, on Saturday.

Serious question, team. What do we think of the Punchestown Festival??? It always gets bracketed with Cheltenham and Aintree (as in ‘he’ll be aimed at one of the end of season Festivals – Cheltenham, Aintree or Punchestown) but to me, personally, it is miles, and I do mean miles, behind Cheltenham and Aintree in terms of interest and prestige. I know there is serious money up for grabs at Punchestown but to me it’s never appealed as much as the other 2 meetings.
I'm not a great fan of the track to be honest, and I think the camerawork doesn't focus enough on the crowds - the atmosphere just doesn't come across.
Punchy is very popular this side of the water Barney and there is top quality racing so not sure where you are going saying its miles behind chelts and Aintree.Obviously cheltenham is the top festival but Aintree was pretty dry on quality this season so I would have Punchy ahead of it but hey that's just me.
Only saying its miles behind Aintree and Cheltenham to me. That may be because after Cheltenham and Aintree I’ve had enough of the Jumps plus, to me, the burgeoning Flat season has now started to take precedence. Another reason why it fails to excite would be that most of the races (especially the big heats) will be fought over by just 2 stables and 3-4 owners . The huge prizemoney on offer will always attract good horses and ensure headlines but it’s not up there with the major meetings for me. Again though that’s just a personal viewpoint.
Id have Cheltenham then punchestown and then aintree in that order. As a general rule though i think the Irish races don't hold the same prestige anyway. I've said this before and got some stick for it but I suppose it's just the way racings being viewed by people I know who are into racing and gambling. My grandad bet on horses from being old enough to the weeks before he died at 96 last year and he always used to have a little chuckle if I told him id backed an horse running in Ireland. Irish bred horses, trainers, owners, jockeys etc in my opinion are generally number 1 in the sport and for the most part are exceptional.

Ludlow 3.35 taken two against the field: CALL TO ORDER - might need the run after his Winter break but won decent class 2 at Cheltenham at back end of 2016 and had a wind op. MAX FORTE - should be winning shortly off this mark(117)and been money for him.
Ludlow 4.05 ZOLTAN VARGA @ 10/1 Still a maiden but some fair form in bumpers and shown glimmer of ability recently in handicap hurdles.Channon string in good form and nicely weighted on 10st1.
That was blatant with Enniskillen in the first at Punchestown, 11/8 out to 9/2, and some wonder why this isnt on a par with Aintree or Cheltenham. 9k prize money, probably laid 3 times that on betfair
