Personally, I just think that some posters just get fed up with the amount of **** spouted on here at times.
And Col (and his lads) and Finglas did the same for me A great day for us all but capped off for me by meeting many of the lads (and Beth fleetingly) which made it so much better
To be fair, I think we still would. I was around for a while, but due in part to other posters leaving, and in equal part to some of the rubbish that started to appear around the time Ted appeared (I’m sorry, Ted, and it wasn’t just your posts), the board just lost its appeal. I still drop in for the match reports and gossip, but it’s sadly not the same place as when I joined.
And Beth very kindly sorted tickets for myself and my lads, (sorry a bit late on this thread) meeting us at the bottom of the steps at Wembley Park tube, something we'll always appreciate!! Whole weekend was fantastic Saturday at Wembley, Sunday at Wentworth (to see Rory win), Bank holiday Monday home to recover (with no voice)
I remember that well Devon....and meeting all the rest of lads and lasses. Even a lady who I sat next to in row A of the upper loft for years....we barely spoke until a random meeting at Wembley... Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
I don't post anywhere near as much, because the crap you get from some people simply for posting an opinion is ridiculous. This board certainly has it's cliques, mostly drawn along political / EU / nationalistic lines, and you can easily find yourself pretty much alone when your opinions get slammed by the massed hordes. The issue is that you too easily forget that you're not replying to a username, you're replying to a person. And the anonymity of the interweb gives people the 'freedom' to be far more aggressive, abusive, and belligerent than they ever would be in the real world. I think if people remembered that and acted on here as they would face to face, a lot of the missing posters wouldn't have opted out.
That is certainly true WLW...We are all keyboard warriors...some are more aggressive than others. Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
That is the key point. Soooo much to discuss when we were winning, who we'd sign next, who our manager was going to be this week to the next etc. As the footie has fed less interesting discussion, so the rest of the more peripheral issues have taken its place.
It's sad if people are drifting away from the board, or are less inclined to post, because of 'difficult' posts from others on here. I myself have posted stuff from time to time that I regretted afterwards (note to self - don't post when pissed!) and would hate to think that anyone stopped posting because of me. I hereby apologise to anyone that I may have offended at any time. The thing is, I get most enjoyment from the the Off-Topic stuff, particularly the Politics Thread, and politics is always likely to be confrontational. I think, though, that in the main the exchanges are respectful, if sometimes heated. If you volunteer opinions about politics, or religion, you should expect to have these opinions robustly challenged. This is a forum for the exchange of views - if everyone agreed with each other it would be pretty dull. It's easy to stay off these threads if you prefer. Two of my favourite posters, Stan and Col, have been rather quiet of late and this has made the board less interesting, in my opinion. I mostly agree with Stan and hardly ever agree with Col, but I value contributions from both equally. Similarly, my politics are very different to Uber's or Goldie's, but I enjoy reading political contributions from each of them, and challenging them where I can. I struggle with Ellers' style of debate, but that's my problem. DT has taken a lot of stick on another thread, and I too find his stuff exasperating at times, but it would be a duller place without him, if you ask me. Swords was entertaining too, but just went too far. Keep posting guys.
I love this forum, think personally its one of the most easy going of the lot. Also enjoy pretty much everyones contributions (most of the time!) Would hate to see it go down the pan due to lack of posts and people leaving. That said.... . Is there actually any way that we can attract new members? Is it easy to sign up nowadays as some have said its hard or nigh on impossible? Would be good to add some new blood whilst holding on to current members
I can agree with that RTID, if we were doing well there would be more activity. The off topics threads can be good but I wish I had never posted on the politics thread. It all started off okay but as I said recently it turned into the 'Wild West'. I will always hold my hands up and say yes I was 'Billy the kid' at times. The thread was divisive but also interesting at times however I believe the thread went downhill after we lost two important contributors. Their well-balanced arguments seemed to be replaced by sarcasm and closed ears. we didn't respect others beliefs and at one stage it got too personal. Knocking someone's education and family was a step too far. I made my decision not to post on it again and decided to catch up on the Match Day thread only to find that had been hijacked (something I am pleased to say I have never done). This football season has been a disappointment for me and reading some fab posts on here has been the highlight. However, I will be taking a break from the board in the summer not because I dislike posters but i will be enjoying my holiday and family events.
