Neither do I, he's only just better than Migs, which is not a great standard to compare. However I feel Butland is worse than both. I know you can't blame a gk solely for a relegation but the must shoulder some of the blame. We've seen that an excellent gk can gain a team points over the season, not seen any evidence Butland has done that for Stoke, just prevented them from losing by more goals. Just because a gk is busy doesn't mean they're good. Also Migs came from Sunderland (who managed to stay up that season) where he was extremely busy, hows that worked out?
He’s been dreadful this season. The serious ankle injury seems to have had an impact on his mobility. Far too many errors
Ruben Neves is currently playing for Wolves having signed for them for £16m last season whilst they were in the Championship. The club have a dodgy arrangement with Jorge Mendes for Neves, I reckon the whole transfer would be quite expensive once you include transfer fees, agent fees, etc. Not sure I see it happening.
That means sod all. Of course he’s going to make a lot of saves because he plays for a **** team who concede a lot of shots. You clearly haven’t seen watched him because he’s made a lot of ****s up this season. And playing for Liverpool means he won’t have to make many saves so he needs to concentrate. As usual, you’re not used to the levels required to be a big club.
I’ve watched him in the flesh on a number of occasions which is more than you have, so save the patronising bollocks Jimmy. He’s a good keeper and of course the number of saves made and the percentage of shots saved is relevant ffs. You chat absolute wham at times
On Butland, I'm pretty sure that I read an article a while back that reviewed a goal keepers effectiveness that measured what a team should have conceded versus what they actually did concede. It was rated as xG or xGo or something like that. Butland was in the bottom 3 in the league. De Gea was a million miles form every other keeper but second was 'no hope Pope'
TBH its not my priority argument and as the bi names round europe aint coming the most important thing is butland shows he wants to join us by dropping a clanger saturday or just let salah have 3 or 4.
To be fair to Jimmy, you only stated shots saved and not percentage. This isn't aimed at you Tobes, but many people make the mistake of thinking stats are direct indicators of a player's performances. They aren't, they are evidence and the analysis element is crucial. Once stats are given context (by that I mean, correctly apportioning the weight of various factors), only ten are they actually useful. On the topic of goalkeepers, many relegated teams have had starring goalkeepers and this is, as someone correctly pointed out, the concentration levels being maintained at a higher level throughout the game. What makes goalkeepers like Manuel Neuer so phenomenal, is their ability to make a crucial save in the latter stages of a game where they've otherwise been relatively unchallenged. It's because naturally their concentration levels would be expected to dip, but they've managed to make the save despite this.
