Liverpool, Roma and the European Cup semi-final that's forever tainted Italian side faced the Reds in the 1984 final - but Dundee United will always feel it should have been them please log in to view this image https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ews/liverpool-roma-european-cup-semi-14562978
I want top 4 secured first and foremost. I know the focus is on CL but beating WBA and Stoke were priority for me.
Now, we cannot afford not to beat Stoke and Brighton. We don't know how Tottenham are going to react to their FA cup semi -final defeat. Chelsea also have a slim hope. We have too many draws especially at home already.
So you think securing a place in next seasons CL is more important than a SF in the same competition? That sums up the lunacy of the Sky generation football follower, balance sheet ahead of trophy cabinet.
Winning the champions league gets you a place in it anyway. No point being in it if you arent going to try and win it. Arsenal may disagree, as they have been doing the opposite for years
Would I risk everything to go all in for the CL and potentially end up 5th? Hell no. The reason being is that we’re still building this team for the long term. Our squad is still really thin outside of the first XI. getting top 4 will give us another summer of shoppining in the big market. Don’t forget - this is our first season back in CL in a while. We need consistent qualification to ensure that we keep buying the best players. Of course, there’s no point in being in the competition and not winning it - ie Arsenal. But that their problem. If we’re in the CL for the next 5 years and only get to second stage and no more, then questions need to be asked. Ideally - we would have beaten WBA and Stoke, qualified for top 4 and focused primarily on CL.
The difference between us and arsenal is that they’ve been in CL for a long time and showed no signs of progressing. This is only our second time in a decade.
You’re within touching distance of the final, and could win the thing, and yet you wouldn’t prioritise this massively over the league placing, in case you somehow didn’t qualify again next season.......it’s laughable mate sorry. Your justification is that you won’t be able to buy the best players without future seasons in the competition, when you’ve made the SF without being in it regularly for years........makes **** all sense.
You’re not getting it. We’re still building this team. Of course we want to win the CL. But we have to face facts - if we get to final, we’re massive underdogs to Real and Bayern. Worst case scenario - we lose in the final and finish 5th. Are you telling me that’s good?? We will win trophies in the future - no doubt. But I want us to build a platform and stability first.
The problem is that we have been "building for the future" for last 30 years, yes we need to plan long term but we have to go for it in the the CL whilst we have got a chance. Even given the chance to build a team there is no guarantee that we will get this far again in the next 5 years.

I'm glad to see Klopp is going for the CL over the 4th place trophy, I'll leave all the team building and money issues to the club all I want is us lifting that trophy.
