I have always been an animal lover. Both my mother and father had pets when they remarried. My father had a whippet and a yorkshire terrier, these both got on with a loveable ginger tom. My mother had a fantastic white poodle that I bought her many years ago. Having always lived in a flat it is difficult to have pets. This is good in a way as dogs can be a problem for looking after if you go away. With a cat just have a cat flap and you leave the fridge open so they can help themselves to milk.
Nothing against dogs but I'm a cat person myself. We always had them at home when I was young and my old mum still has a few. They don't need quite as much attention as dogs, and are generally a bit easier for older folk to look after. The occasional frog, mouse or small songbird brought in can be a nuisance, and at this time of year moggie hair can set off my hayfever. But being a flat tenant I don't have any pets of my own.
I've had 2 dogs, both mongrels with a lot of Border Collie. Nowadays mongrels are called silly names like cockapoo, or labradoodle, and cost a lot of money. I know someone who just paid £500 for a mongrel, aka a Chorkie/. Work it out for yourselves. Just got a cat now.
I've had both, no comparison in my view. Cats are just after food, dogs are man's best friend. Planning on getting a couple of dogs when I retire.
Particularly ginger ones. If I was a dog I'd be a Labrador, cuddly and adorable. I was in Sweden once and went greyhound racing. The first race was run by wippets, that was a very strange experience.
Cat's for me . Nothing against Dogs , but Love Cat's . If you give them attention , they give it back .I will just add though that IMHO the first few days interaction with the Kitten is VITAL for bonding a relationship , otherwise they can be quite aloof . I think you get longer to bond with a Puppy .
