    Prawn sandwiches?

You guys need to get yourself in the corporate. It’s a bit better than poncing around with prawn sarnies and prosecco.

Didn't you literally just write a dozen posts how we should all be thankful to The Glorious One Lee Charnley and Magic Mike?

Just to be clear. You mention "people going on about £120m" as being fanciful, it is then highlighted that YOU are the person going on about it and you respond by saying "Honestly mate you can’t legislate for our fan base, they’re ****ing fruit loops when it comes to realism."

I'm not entirely convinced you have a grasp on what reality is anymore. Take a break from being Free-dor for a day or two, it has to affect your mental health.

It also took him 7 weeks to sign Lejeune... when there was a buy out clause....
He just kept under bidding and Eibar were like 'no Lee, there's a buyout clause... pay that'.
The Manc bastard is way out of his depth as Pouchy well knows....
He's just having a wee bit fish with his Fredor mask on.

When no one else is interested you start low. We are running a business. We can’t adopt the fan mentality of “ah just pay what they want”. If we did our budget would be marginalised and the same fans would be saying “we are not giving Rafa enough money”.

They literally can’t win with you guys.

First, if we did free up a budget that saw us finally break a 20 year old transfer record, do you really think the fans would moan about marginalising?! You may need to give a Wiki link to explain what a marginalised budget is.

Second, on this example, how the heck can it possibly take 7 weeks in the first place? It's not like Lee's saving on agents fees.....plus Eibar didn't say "pay what we want". They said "he's got a buy out clause, pay that". Slight difference. He's a CB that cost £8.6m in a world paying £30m for Mustafi and £75m for Van Dijk, what in the name of Geralt is he achieving by 'haggling'?! Get it done, move on. If he's not worth £8.6m, he shouldn't be in the Premier League, end of story.

I understand the approach on, say, Berahino who was incidentally never worth the £20m Charnley offered, let alone the £25m they wanted. But if you need a first choice CB in the PL, and Rafa has already told you that's who he wants, and he has a get out clause of just £8.6m you bloody well pay £8.6m, move on and competently and effectively sign others so you're not left scrabbling around for strikers and end up with Joselu.

I imagine Charnley was haggling over £8.6million or whatever, because he knew from MA that funds were going to be as tight as.

Also, wasn't our transfer record set in 2005? Fighting fire with fire?

I love that you guys are holding up Lejeune as an example of the clubs incompetence. It’s borderline insanity. The guy was signed for buttons in today’s market, early on in the market, and was the managers preferred choice. You literally could not pick a worse example. It had zero impact on our ability to sign our 2nd choice striker after numero uno preferred Swansea. It’s probably an example of Super Lee Charnley at his best.

That 20 year transfer record needs put to bed once and for all. That was a time when we were competing for the worlds best players. We were 15m for Shearer, 18m for Owen to replace him. Quite simply football has changed and so have Newcastle United. There is no point crying over spilt milk like babies. The club has been badly managed by the current regime, football has become a different animal and we’ve gone south. As such forget the big transfer fees. The club is now well run and operating in line with its means. They are doing everything within their financial constraints to be the best they can. People just need to get behind Super Lee Charnley, Big Michael and Rafa.

The reality is the money we paid then is still more than some PL clubs operating now. It’s still within maybe a few million of half the leagues record signing.

That tells you not many clubs are going way beyond that. It all comes back to fans struggling to adapt to our new status.

As pointed out by Tasty Mag, the transfer record was set in 2005 which is only 13 years ago, it does however make it the longest standing record transfer fee for any club in the Premier League, time for it to be broken.

However it is still the 15th highest in the league and within 3m of 4 other clubs in the league who have all been in the league a lot longer than we have enjoying the benefit of the current TV money.

This is actually a comical point on the part of our fans. Within the last 3 seasons we have spent more than 10m on no less than 10 players. Given there are 5 clubs with transfer records of not much more, and we've had a year in the championship, then I don't think we've been too badly done to.

I'm sure the transfer record will be broken. We will pay more than 20m at some stage. I think its all a hangover from when we were paying the big bucks. Now we are just an also ran because we don't have the money, the fans are looking for someone to blame.

I've never said otherwise. I simply think you have to commend them since McClaren where we've thrown everything the club has at bringing in the best manager possible, and providing him with every penny the club generates. I don't think you can ask a lot more of your owners. They've even tried to sell the club when they realised they couldn't reach the next level up. This despite the pots of money on offer.
