At some point before next season Nigel will have a meeting with Cockwomble and his questions will be 1 What are your ambtions for next season Mr Vice Chairman ? a) Top 6 battling for promotion back to the Promised Land b) Mid table obscurity and stay in the Championship as cheap as possible c) Sell every player we receive a bid for and replace them and all the players released with juniors and free transfers and fight another relegation battle.. Depending on the answer a) What's my transfer budget ? b) What's the wage structure ? c) What's in it for me ?
I can’t imagine Ehab plumping for a multiple choice answer system. I reckon it might go something like: Alright? Alright? How’ you doing? Not bad, thanks. You? Same old, same old. Out planned for summer? Well...
Grosicki & Hernandez will have to be sold before Adkins can bring players in The Allams won't have the stomach for a promotion push and Adkins knows his budget will be less so we're likely to hear words such as "re-structuring the wage bill", "sound financial planning", "long-term stability of the club", "selling the club to the right buyer".. We all know mid-table will be the unsaid aim
It would make absolute business sense for them to sell those who want away, strengthen with sense and rebuild for a promotion push... ...but that would be sense and...
I think OLM posted a list of first teamers still within contract for next season, there's only 15. Even if we don't sell any of those we will still need a large number of incoming players. I expect to see more players from the U23's in the first team squad. Or the Allams could dig deep and throw a whole load of money to Nigel and make a real push for promotion, a bit daft to let us get so far behind and then pay lots to make us a promotion candidate but it would quell a lot of unrest and disquiet among a section of supporters.
If they're as good as Bowen why not? Would you put fifty or sixty million of your own money to push for promotion? I ****ing wouldn't.
If I thought Adkins (or whoever) would be given the resources to put a decent young squad together I wouldn't mind mid-table mediocrity next season if it meant we could have a proper go 2019-20 season. Can't see it though.
we only need a maximum of 5 new signings then , based on Adkins assumption that he only wants 20 players
It's certainly a debate worth having, but not on a keyboard typing with two fingers. But in short, from where we are now discounting next years parachute payments certainly not. But from where we were a year ago, I would have staked more than the Allams have. For example many of the players were the same ones that had got us promoted the previous year, so rather than cash in on them I think it would have been better to keep them.
They are not bothered about the unrest, that was always a red-herring. We'll get more of what we've had. it really is thst simple. Unless, Assem, takes a stronger hand.
That would have entailed new contracts for most, which they wouldn't have signed. I doubt. That would have increased the liabilities for the Allams. I think it's easy to say have a real go at it. Derby have been doing that for years. Boro look like they have ****ed it up. Fulham have spent a fortune and are massively in debt. So are villa. Etc etc It's like a gambler chasing his losses.
