I've just seen people talking about certain areas being rough down South but I've never really ventured out of the North. What's the roughest areas you have been too?

    Mine:
    The raffles estate - Carlisle.
The police have actually bought a couple of houses on the estate and turned them into manned stations just to deter and keep an eye on the trouble. I was there for a couple of months ago a few years back and there was 3 stabbings and a hit nd run just while I was there. They don't give a ****.

    Kensington (Kenny) - Liverpool
This place was super duper rough. I never actually seen trouble around here but you could just feel it in the air. It was a bit of a ghost town with everything boarded up and if it wasn't boarded up it was smashed up. You always have to be on your guard around here. Very intimidating place.

    Moss Side - Manchester
Probably the worst reputation out of these three but I'd actually say the least intimidating. They have shops that automatically lock when the door closes, I'd never seen that before. Im assuming that was to do with robberies. Most of the guys around there are chavs and wannabees who's bark is definitely worse than there bite.

Any more up North and what's the worst ones down South?

Moss Side isn't even the roughest area here anymore. I'd say for run down ****hole, you'll struggle to find a bigger dump than Rochdale, you'd be a brave man to walk through that town with ya top off and your 3 lions tattoo on show as well.

I live in a nice area, the beat round here must be bored stiff.

  5. Burnt Oak in NW London is a proper hole. Used to be a bit rubbish but now its just appalling. There's a big Council estate called Graham Park and for years people would say they lived in Burnt oak instead. Now people in Burnt Oak say Graham Park...

I did a weeks fundraising in South Wales and the day we went to Merthyr we asked the receptionist for nice areas and she said "don't know but avoid Gurnos as even the police don't go there on Friday evenings" <laugh>

Kenny is alright these days, they’ve renovated most of those boarded up houses and the community has come back to life.

When did that happen? When I was going around there about 10 years ago there was nothing there, it was like the forgotten land. Pretty spooky place, in a way lol

A few years back now, the old boarded up terraces are now fully occupied. A fair few student houses around there now, as it’s so close to town. It’s a convenient place to live which has made it attractive as they brought it back to life.

Lot of myths about areas, often media or folklore created

Read someone on here saying Bradford had no go areas for whites, used to get told of no go areas for Brown's/blacks etc but in the main it was bullshit in my experience

Where I live now had a bad rep few years back. But if you knew the area it was a couple of families involved I drugs. Sure **** went down but it was mainly them fighting each other. People got scared but weren't in danger

I could tell you some stories about how misleading sobe of the info is and his its "planted" to help

Probably coincided with the housing market renewal pathfinder initiatives that john Prescott cane up with.

They, probably, all are known as something else locally. So stokes was RENEW but it was the HMRPI

Many years ago I was driving to the hospital that sits on top of the Gurnos, it's built on a hill. I had to pull over to the side as a group of about 10 kids sat on a stolen hospital bed came bombing down the road at a fair speed completely out of control.

Grimsby is the biggest **** hole I’ve ever had the misfortune to witness. East Marsh and Nunsthorpe, full of smack rats, alcies and complete bobble heads. I’d rather spend a long weekend in Beirut

Where I grew up the places to avoid were Ferrier estate Kidbrooke, Thamesmead, Pepys estate Deptford ,Gypsy Hill in Norwood and Parts of New Cross near the old Den.

Those places were and still are rife with gangs, drugs, guns and knives. I never felt threatened living in London. But anybody who grew up in sketchy neighbourhoods will tell you that you get your street head on. So you find ways to avoid trouble, unless you either go looking for it, are extremely naive and gullible or just happen to get unlucky being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ferrier Estate in Kidbrooke in the late 90's was without question the roughest place I've ever been in this country. You had to be invited on the estate or you'd get ****ed up. No emergency services would go there. If someone overdosed (numerous times daily) they'd just drive or carry them to the entrance then dump them on the pavement.

Easily the worst estate in London back then. Got no idea what it's like nowadays, but very much doubt it's improved. Probably bulldozed it down.
